4.0 out of 5 stars Some funny stuff, more a documentary than comedy
Now that the war is over, we can reflect on what happened in that brief period, and we can put it under study. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but not great either!
Worth the 6 dollars I paid but I'd say not a cent more. Especially the "bonus desert footage" which is a total joke, it only shows alternate views of the desert cliffs and some close ups on sand, big friggin whooptie-doo. So I guess they really mean desert footage quite literally. I loved watching this guy live while the unfortunate war was going on full steam,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Some funny stuff, more a documentary than comedy, October 3, 2003
This review is from: Baghdad Bob (DVD)
Now that the war is over, we can reflect on what happened in that brief period, and we can put it under study. This forty five minute documentary is just that, it explores the man that was "Comical Ali" the Iraqi information minister, from when the first bombs are dropped on Baghdad to the last day of the war. It is hilarious to hear "Baghdad Bob" say such classics as "They are trapped" and "The American Villains".

However, this is actually a serious documentary, more serious than the cover suggests. It gives a good look at the specific biography of the man, as well as a serious psychological analysis trying to figure out if the man was simply delusional, or a man trapped in a catch 22.

It's an entertaining and informative movie, we see a lot of the press conferences that were glossed over as people watched the war coverage more intensely focused on the embedded reporters and the Donald Rumsfield press conferences. I'd recommend this movie if you are interested in one of the most interesting characters in the Iraq-U.S. war.

Especially the "bonus desert footage" which is a total joke, it only shows alternate views of the desert cliffs and some close ups on sand, big friggin whooptie-doo. So I guess they really mean desert footage quite literally. I loved watching this guy live while the unfortunate war was going on full steam, but this video misses some of his best quotes. The narrator has a kind of annoying voice to me as well, but that's just my opinion. Reminds me of the narrator from the Toology joke-of-a-documentary, maybe tht's why. Anyhoo, do yourself a favor and get one from a flea market or garage sale, etc to save money, cause you probably won't want to watch it more than once. I give it 2 1/2 stars out of 5.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth it if only for an archive of soon-to-be-forgotten history..., April 4, 2007
This review is from: Baghdad Bob (DVD)
As everyone says, this video isn't as funny as it should be; the narrator gets in the way of Bob's quotes; but it is worth $[...] or whatever just to memorialize the other side of the war. In five years all you'll hear is about how the Iraqi were cute little Bedouins with cute little camels and a rich history of holding hands and singing cum-by-allah until the imperialist Americans attacked them for oil. At that point DVDs like this will be the only thing left reminding us that we thought Saddam had weapons of mass destruction because he was telling us he had weapons of mass destruction, and that everything he was telling us was coming through this man, who said things like "America has not taken over the airport. I can see it out my window right now. Sure, two tanks came here, and when they saw us they turned and ran." The greatest point was the split-screen, when CNN or whomever was showing the live feed of what was going on out the man's window as he was being interviewed... Yes, buy this DVD, and remember what really went on in 2003.

4.0 out of 5 stars How NOT to do PR, November 30, 2007
This review is from: Baghdad Bob (DVD)
Baghdad Bob... world-class liar! A friend of mine told me that the advance units of the Army were at the Victory Arches when Baghdad Bob went on the air to say "there are no Americans in Baghdad... none!" They were tempted to go to the studio where the broadcast was taking place and enter the room where the media were filming this.

They decided not to. One argument was that not even this guy could be that stupid... it had to be a trap! The Iraqis must be waiting along the route for the units to go over.

very entertaining but could have been better!

This is a must watch DVD. It had me laughing for the entire documentary. After spending a year inside of Al Faw Palace in Baghdad seeing how this regime lived, I also feel a more personal connection to the DVD, walking the same grounds. For anyone interested in the last moments of the invation, you will love this.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit short, July 20, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Baghdad Bob (DVD)
Like the other reviewer said, this probably isn't worth more than the few bucks you would pay for a "Sale Bin" DVD. Viewing it now instead of back in 2003 gives one a new perspective on propaganda, since it seems the white house has trotted out its own Baghdad Bob (Scott McClellan). A sobering analysis of what happens when governments just can't lie well with a straight face. Pretty bad when they can't even convince this 12 year old. The only difference was that Mohammed Saeed Al-Sahaf was at least entertaining doing it.
