5.0 out of 5 stars Swedish quality
A great tool, made in Sweden, solid construction. Nice and lite weight, yet can fall from a 4th story onto concrete and be good as new. Well worth the price, as it'll out-perform and out-last lesser quality Chinese made scrapers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice scraper but
The carbide blade that came with the scraper was bad. When it was used the results looked like I had used a corregated knife. It cut shallow groves in the wood in places and left paint in others. Both sides of the blade were the same. Replacement blades cost $10, almost half the price of the tool. I also purchased the smaller scraper and it was fine and did a great job.

This is one nice scraper, light as a feather, yet tough as nails. It may seem a little pricey as scrapers go, but when you have a boatload of paint you want to get rid of, you'll be glad you have it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Scraper I own, October 31, 2006
Among all the scrapers I have, this is the best one (or the most useful one so far). This is not a finishing scraper, although you can use it on hardwood for rough shaping. It is heavy duty and did a great job cleaning out the epoxy residue on the wood. It can scrape out the old paint as well if you work on a refinishing job. (If you suspect the old paint might contain lead, do not use a scraper on it ever! I was using it on an old piano and I was pretty sure it was clear lacquer.) It is expensive, but this is indeed a case of you get what you pay for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely awesome., August 8, 2011
This review is from: Bahco 665XXX Premium Ergonomic Carbide Scraper (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've tried it all as far as paint removal - toxic strippers, wire wheels, nylon wheels, heatgun scrapers, you name it.

This little tool beats them all. The secret is the razor sharp carbide blade that lets you absolutely rip through paint - even 4 layers of 30 year old paint were no match for this thing. I estimated my removal rate on my last job to be on the order of a square foot a minute all the way through 4 layers of paint down to smooth bare wood - remember to pull parallel to the work surface and not push.

It won't rip up the wood like wire wheels do, nor sling dust everywhere. A wire wheel was easily 5 times slower.

It won't take years off your life like strippers will - it's a rare chemical that will eat through 2 layers of nitrile rubber gloves in 3 minutes, but paint strippers eat most gloves for breakfast, imagine what they do to your body's cells. Ugh. No way.

It is, however, a workout to use at speed - wear gloves and be prepared for blisters - the amount of force required is significant but it's worth it.

I did 200 square feet of scraping and the blade still looks like new, YMMV.

As the title of this review suggests, there's no holster supplied with the tool. The Bahco 665xxx Scraper is a fine tool indeed but I did have one major beef with it and one minor beef. The minor beef is the plastic handle/knob. While comfortable, it had a small seam down the center of it which I used sandpaper to remove making it more comfortable. The major beef is that the original blade is a wavy or corrugated edge which leaves a rough and gouged surface and which I can't use for scraping glue lines. (which is primarily what I bought it for) I wish I had known this when I bought it because I would have purchased an additional smooth (flat) blade. As far as I can tell, the only flat blade is the 2". I think they should note this in the description. Some people may not want gouges on their scraped pieces. Other than that it's a very nice scraper and generally worth the money.

Not a weakness to this product. If you have a need for such a scraper, its a life-time built tool so don't hesitate to make the buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bahco quality, comfortable design, safe holder, August 11, 2010
This review is from: Bahco 665XXX Premium Ergonomic Carbide Scraper (Tools & Home Improvement)
Had this two years now. Used it a BUNCH! Still sharp. Carbide blades are the way to go and Bahco blades are boss.

Unlike some other reviewers, I did get the holder, which is made of hard plastic. It protects the tool AND your leg very well.

It is a simple tool, but quality design and materials make this a good choice. It is a hand tool, so YOU supply the power. That's where quality, sharpness and ergonomic design makes a BIG difference in how your hands feel at the end of the day.

This is the best scraper I have seen and used; great professional quality, but inexpensive enough for any homeowner.
Highly recommended!

This is the best carbide scraper I've used. Old paint just rolls off the surface. Easy to use, good solid grip, lots of leverage. As others have mentioned, there is no holster with this product - description is incorrect.
