4.0 out of 5 stars A snapshot of a different place and time., January 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a photography based hardcover book that contains about 78 or so black & white photos on 154 pages.

There are seven seperate sections covering all aspects of Scottish life including: Camera's-Eye View, Home and Family, Education and Religion, Sickness and Health, Institutions, All Work, and Time to Play.

There is a short 3-5 page introduction for each chapter datailing the various historical aspects of life for that particular area.

Each photo has an accompaning small paragraph that gives various details about the photo such as the year of photo, family name, location, etc. Most photos are from the early part of the 20th Century. Date range of photos start from the 1880's and go all the way up to the early 1990's.

I personally found the late 1800's to early 1900's photos to be the most interesting. One can really sense the hardship that these families endured by just looking at their eyes. Overall a nice book to get a glimpse of Scottish life way-back-when.
