DECENT SOUNDTRACK WITH SOME GOOD SONGS,
By
This review is from: Bait (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
BAIT
SOUNDTRACK The movie that this soundtrack goes with is actually a very entertaining film and so I thought the soundtrack would be as well. Over all this turned out to be a decent album with some good songs on it, none were horrible. 1.FREE-the first track is the single from the album by the lovely MYA who is always sounding excellent. The video for this song was excellent as is the track its self, Mya sounds amazing on each verse. The hook is very catchy and the production from Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and James "Big Jim" Wright is very bouncy. Great song and possibly best on the album.5/5 2.WHY ME?-the next track is a very epic sounding track with a pulsating beat from Jayo for FAT JOE and CUBAN LINK. Link sounds good over this track as does Joe talking about various things that are wrong. A good song a sounds like a perfect song for the movie, great track.4/5 3.ICEY-this one here is a song by NELLY and the ST. LUNATICS and to be honest this sounds like a left over from their album. As with many soundtracks this one gets a throw away from this group but to be honest it would have sounded right at home on the "Blue Streak" soundtrack more so than this one. Over all this is a good enough song and the beat by Jay E is cool sounding, they just don't rock it right.3/5 4.TAKE IT THERE-DONELL JONES is in the house on this track lacing this excellent song with his vocals. Jones sounds great over this DJ Eddie F, Q Boogie & Darren Lighty production, excellent beat. The track is kinda old school sounding with the smooth production and Donell's vocals are great.4.5/5 5.TOOK THE BAIT- Vada Nobles laces this track with a great piano driven instrumental which fits SCARFACE's style perfectly. Face of course sounds excellent over this beat with his perfect verse followed by DANGEROUS who drops an equally as good verse. Face closes things off with his signature flow and great verse.5/5 6.WORK-the great ROOTS are all over this track both on the mic and on production delivering one of the best tracks on the album. The beat is an excellent bass driven production that fits their style perfectly as the drop gems all over the track. ALECHIA JAMES sounds great on the hook with some great vocals, as usual a great Roots track.5/5 7.QUICK RUSH-TOTAL and MISSY ELLIOT come together for this track here which is kinda crazy sounding. The beat for this track by Bink!, and Missy Elliott is very original sounding but has a 90's feel to it. It sounds like a track Missy made for her self but let Total get down on it. Total sounds good on this track and fits the film's style, good song.3.5/5 8.L.I.Z.- LIZ LEITE drops this track talking obviously about her self and it turns out ok at first. The first verse sounds weird over the instrumental from Russell Howard but the hook fits perfectly and each verse after sounds good. Good song but not in regular rotation from me.3.5/5 9.YOU CAN GET THAT- Damon Jer'Core & Kreme drop the beat for this one and do an excellent job on this. The beat is great and had hit written all over it, NO QUESTION sound excellent on this track. BIANCA sounds ok on this track but she should not have started the track off. Both her verse should have been used towards the end, a video for this could have been great.4.5/5 10.I LOVE BEING A GANGSTA-the MAJOR FIGGAS are next up and man do I remember these guys, this is a good track from them. Melvin "Rugged'ness" Carter is the MVP of this track delivering a very cool sounding beat with a video game kinda twist to it. Each verse is good as each artist delivers a nice verse but this is not their best track, the hook could use some work.3.5/5 11.THERE'S NOTHING BETTER-former Roc-A-Fella hit makers BEANIE SIGEL, MEMPHIS BLEEK, and RELL drop this very east coast sounding track. Bleek starts things out with a good verse with Rell all over the hook. Sigel kicks things off next with a great verse over this Bernard "Big Demi" Parker instrumental. This one sounds like it was meant for one of their albums but made it onto this release.4/5 12.SEX, SEX, MONEY, MONEY-man the sound of this one brings me back, reminds me off my time on the East Coast so much living in Maryland. The beat from Minnesota just has a vibe that I associate with my time up there for some reason. The RAM SQUAD sound good over this production delivering each bar well. The hook just makes me think of Maryland so much man, this brings me back.4/5 13.REMARKABLE-JAHEIM and TERRY DEXTER come together to drop this R&B duet with some great vocals. Both sound good on this track with Terry in particular sounding great, good slow jam right here. The smooth production from Naughty by Nature producer Kay Gee & Eddie Berkeley is excellent.4.5/5 14.CAN'T WITH ME-producer Righteous Funk Boogie drops an excellent beat on this one very original sounding. TRICK DADDY sounds excellent on this track as his style and flow fits the beat perfect. The beat for this is excellent I really do enjoy the track a lot, also THE LOST TRIBE & J.V. feature on this track. This is a great song and one of the best on the album.5/5 15.WHERE IS THE LOVE?-long before the Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake asked MAJUSTY asked the question. This is absolutely one of the best songs on the album with Majusty dropping some great vocals on this track. The slow instrumental from Lil Rick & Kevin "K-Jack" Jackson is perfect for this track. Another well placed song.4.5/5 16.BED SPRINGS-JAMIE FOXX the star of the film drops a song on the soundtrack long before he was really recognized for his singing talents. I bet you can tell from the title what this song is about. Foxx sounds excellent on this track and gives a preview to what he would eventually be doing in his music career. TAVIA IVERY as well sounds good on this track with a beautiful voice, and Jamie Foxx did a good job on production as well. The beat as a softer Roger and Zapp vibe going for it.4/5 This is over all a decent soundtrack and would be well worth the price used or something.

The year 2000 have been terrific for movie soundtracks with the likes of Nutty Professor II , Shaft, Big Mommas House, Romeo Must Die all these soundtracks has satisfied hip hop fans and r&b fans alike.. Now you can add the soundtrack to the motion picture Bait to the list of very good soundtracks.. The 16 track CD is a very strong collection of head banging hip hop and smooth out r&b.. Bait has an impressive line up of artist pretty much read like who is hot right now.. Mya gets the soundtrack started with her dance track Free.. The song deals with finding that right one in your life.. The song was produced by the hitmaking Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.. Next up is one of the hottest hip hop tracks on the CD Cuban Link and Fat Joe is on board for the blazing Why Me?? this is certainly a top notch banger.. Nelly with his Icey .. This song reminds me a lot of his current hit Country Grammar If you like that song you will like this one.. Donell Jones turns in a fine performance on the track Take it There .. Donell shows that he can do the uptempo tunes as well as he can do the slow tunes.. Total on board with one of their best songs Quick Rush with a little help from Missy Elliott.. Newcomers from D.C call Majusty comes in with the best cut on the CD with the ballad Where Is The Love these guys can really sing a very impressive debut.. Another newcomer Jaheim comes in with the smooth ballad Remarkable with a little help from R.L from the group Next who co wrote the song.. Other noteworthy contributions Ram Squad, Trick Daddy, The Roots.. This is a must for all r&b and hip hop lovers
