Cuban Girl,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bajo El Cielo Espanol (Under the Spanish Sky) (Audio CD)
I greatly enjoyed this CD. When I was a little girl, I had a Spanish aunt who took me often to see "Spanish Zarzuelas," the Spain version of light opera. It was fascinating to finally find some of the songs I memorized as a girl. There is the extra pleasure of hearing Placido's magnificent voice singing the old melodies. If you like this type of music, this CD is a must! Enjoy.

A Value Indeed,
By John Cont (Florida) - See all my reviews

Domingo is the master on this recording, and does offer a closer emotional character than some other loved Spanish offerings. It is well to remember also, this is such a great selection of Agustin Lara songs, and brings us to remember, "El Flaco de Oro" was truly a great writer of the Boleros for a lifetime. Here, Domingo becomes the vehicle for the historical values of the style. A must have recording, with only a few areas of concern, basically slips in the mix, and curious key changes and heavy orchestrated areas that Lara might not value, were he alive to hear. Even so, it is a five for me.

Inspiring musical canvas!,

Placido Domingo made a real musical journey around the vast Spanish repertoire. His version of "Granada" doesn't match with the consecrated performance of Alfredo Kraus but even so, he could achieve the required feeling and demanded crescendo at the emotive finale. The highlights are to my mind: Murcia, Madrid, Sevilla and Clavel sevillano.
A magnificent and vibrant album for your exclusive delight and enjoyment.
