Saul and Jaguares showing more depth...,
By
This review is from: Bajo El Azul De Tu Misterio (Audio CD)
Bajo El Azul de Tu Misterio is amazing! Saul Hernandez and his band Jaguares finally have released their long awaited second album. This is a real treat for many of the die hard Caifanes/Jaguares fans! However it is a treat for any music fan as well. The first CD is a live "gift" to the fans. As Caifanes, they never released a live album like many bands do. This live CD gives fans a dose of Caifanes/Jaguares in concert. Simply amazing! Going to see the band in concert is like going to a ritual. The gothic overtones mixed with pre-Hispanic visions and sounds make the experience something magical. Saul Hernandez despite the trouble he's had with his vocal chords (he's had several operations) still captivates anyone. The second CD is the studio album and it shows Saul's constant evolution as a songwriter. While many of the older fans don't like this album, it is a success. Saul has gone through several changes in his life. He's become a husband and father and he basically has matured. This album is a lot "happier" but does not lose the gothic feel to it. Songs like FIN and MANTARRAYA show the beautiful essence of his poetry. The inclusion of a symphony adds to his evolution as a musician and gives this album an even more magical aura! A song that particularly stands out is NO ME CULPES which ends the album with a bang. The title for this album and theme is a direct reference to when Saul was scuba diving in the Pacific Ocean and he came to the Continental shelf and saw the vastness of the deep. That is what one hears with this album, the vastness of Saul's poetry and how deep it can get within one's consciousness. A must for any music lover.

Great CD!,

I truly recommend this CD, not only because I'm a hardcore Jaguares fan, but because it is a great production. This CD is filled with the ocean's feeling. Every song has a aqueous tone and it's really very different to the other CD's that they've produced.

Bajo el azul de tu misterio,
By Sergio "Monrock" (Puebla, Mex) - See all my reviews

hey guys, this is a great album, if u don't know who the jaguares is u should still buy this, believe me, it is awesome. the second cd is so mellow and beautiful, and the first cd is so fun and energetic! they play "ayer me dijo un ave", which is their song when they were the caifanes, but i think this version sounds way better, WAY !!! the lyrics are unimaginably beautiful, and their sound is just so cool, i wish everyone could just hear them out, i think they are the best!!!

Jaguares Rule,

I've said it before, and I will say it again. Saul Hernandez once again creates what is known as the best Mexican rock out there today. This time however he designs this album with string ensembles, giving his music the ultimate touch. If you are a Caifanes fan, then you have to own this album, because not only is there a live CD with old Caifanes songs, but also a whole new studio CD as well. Check out the last song "No me Culpes", and you will also agree. And if you still haven't seen them in concert yet, you are missing a beautiful performance. They rocked at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim on February 19, 2000, this is one memory I will never forget.

Good but could have been much better.......,

This review is from: Bajo El Azul De Tu Misterio (Audio CD)
Saul Hernandez is a talented, gifted musician, and for this reason the new Jaguares double album does not live up to expectations. The live album is excellent and flawless, the old Caifanes songs sound just as good as they did back in the day.But the real plus is the Jagures tunes which sound better live than in the album."Las ratas no tienen alas" in particular is breathtaking.CD2 is somewhat disappointing. Saul's lyrics are losing vitality and are becoming repetitive and mundane. The melodic brilliance of El Silencio is missing from the new songs. Symbolic lyrics influenced by poet Octavio Paz in Caifanes albums were refreshing and mysterious; Saul now sounds like he's singing about visiting the damn zoo (note all the references to animals in the music). The real surprise in the album is guitarist Vampiro (from such lame acts as Mana & Azul Violeta), his guitar playing is more subtle and textured than Aguilera or Marcovich. His slide guitar reminds me of the Chili Peppers' John Frusciante and Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmore.Above all, despite the backing band being in top form, the new songs lack the creative flair that characterizes Saul Hernandez. Sacrificing words for melody is the worst mistake a songwriter can commit, and the main weakness of this album.

Back...con ganas,

This album surprised me. There is one thing that Hernandez does like no other: dimensions. Adds new dimensions to a unique style that reaches the core of your soul. The lyrics in this album keep the long standing tradition of Caifanes/Jaguares going strong. The music is sublime...they pull a hattrick with the live CD. I'm biased, I'm a big fan, and I saw them perform 9/15/99 in L.A. and at SDSU 9/17/99. They rocked, baby. That same energy I witnessed in the concerts is captured in the live CD. Saul's voice is sounding puro El Diablito. All in all a great album.

i liked equilibrio better. lyrically, the cd is poetry. i did expect harder and darker guitar riffs. except for "tu reino", the rest of the songs dont get me going. cd 1 is live performances and good ones. cd 2 is slower. still good but not rock music.
