Biography

In 1988 Martin Cradick & Graham Wiggins (aka Dr Didge) pioneered World Fusion by mixing Martin's unique guitar style with Graham's stunning, percussive didgeridoo. While busking the streets of Britain they discovered that people loved the sound - snapping up the home-made cassettes that they sold.

When Joe Boyd saw them busking in Portobello Market, London he bought their cassette and then signed… Read more in Amazon's Outback Store

5.0 out of 5 stars No one can walk away from this music!, September 26, 2001
This review is from: Baka (Audio CD)
I have had all the Baka, Baka Beyond, and Dr. Didg albums since their release and there is no more captivating "new" sound than this. (Matter of fact, I am listening to the "Baka Playlist" for the umpteen zillionth time as I write this!) First off, it is a brilliant stroke of creative genius to bring the indigenous peoples' music to the fore. It resulted in a wonderful mix of instruments and vocals. You won't believe the depth of their musical talent (remember, too, there are loads of them involved) and the beat is infectious, plain and simple. What a great time these guys must have had in Cameroon doing this. And hats off to them for sharing the very best of it with you and me!

Buy all their albums (and do not overlook the Dr. Didg [Didgeridoo player from Baka] album, Out of the Woods, another EXCELLENT, out of the ordinary, spin-off effort). If these albums all went out of print tomorrow, I'll guarantee there isn't a single owner that would sell his or her collection for 10X what they paid for it, this music is that special!

For those of you that don't already know about it, you might also try and find the old Mick Fleetwood album that he did years ago with a similar group of natives (mostly kids) in Ghana. Great stuff, the album-jacket photo of the kids drumming is worth the price alone!

One reviewer advises that you give this music as Christmas gifts. Great advice, ABSOLUTELY! The repeating gift: best investment in longterm friendship you can make!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, January 18, 2003

Brian "Brian" (Ohio, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Baka (Audio CD)
I didn't like this one as much as "Dance the Devil Away", but it is still a very good CD. I just liked the spirit in "Dance the Devil Away" more than this one. The didg and guitar work are outstanding on both albums-the later "solo" material by these two wasn't nearly as good as the magic Outback captured.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a PERFECT disk!, June 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Baka (Audio CD)
I listen to this disk ALL the TIME! It never tires, never gets old. Very basic: GREAT acoustic guitar work and some of the best didg playing I've ever heard (listen to track 3!). Kick in some percussion and melodica on a few tunes and...OH BOY! I wish the two founders (now Dr. Didg and Baka beyond) would regroup...this disk was them at their strongest.
