The book is cute and photos are beautiful YET there's just too much fondant on each cookie. How could you possibly give to someone to eat and enjoy. Each cookie is a work of art that would take over an hour to accomplish just one -- and ohhhh all the supplies you would need. Author and designer is obviously an amazing artist and it really is an "art" book. I will be able to use some of the ideas to scale down to reality decorating for busy people.

Having made many gourmet decorated cookies using Royal icing, I bought this book because I was interested in exploring cookie decorating with fondant. The cookies are beautiful, but some are quite labor intensive and the author is very light on instruction. There are a few basic recipes (which I ended up not using), and then two pages per cookie -- one page is a photo and the other is a small page of instruction (with usually only 3-5 steps -- a visual learner like me would love to have a few illustrations or pics of assembly). Once I got past feeling intimidated by the author's beautiful handiwork and lack of teaching skills, I have made several cookies in this book with great success using a marshmellow fondant recipe I found elsewhere. I did notice that the author does a few things that I consider unnecessary, like using piping gel to attach fondant, which I have never even purchased. (I just use water.) So basically what I am saying is ... skip the instructions and recipes, but shell out the small price of the book for the inspiration alone.

If you've ever wanted to have cookies look amazing, look no further than this book for inspiration and ways in which to turn plain cookies into something special. You'll probably be spending a little more time than normal on each cookie, and decorating with fondant as opposed to icing, but there will be little disappointment in the outcome.

Great little book from a really good designer.

But to drop the other shoe....The cookie decorating is very labor intensive and is more Martha Stewart than Fannie Farmer.

To do things right (as in the book), you will need to expend considerable $ for supplies and have a lot of time to prepare the cookies. You may do it once, but I doubt if it will become a go-to everyday kind of book.
Photos are beautiful and it is a good little read.

Great book with tons of pictures and design ideas for cookie decorating. The designs are really pretty and sparks even more imaginative ideas. The book gives total detail of how to make each design, includes templates for creating your own cookie cutter and has regular frosting suggestions or fondant. Excellent book that I will use extensively. Enjoy.

I'm an avid cookie baker/decorator and have a lot of cookie baking books. This does not add much to my collection.

While this book has some interesting ideas and methods of decorating cookies, it will also give you a feel for how far American English has moved away from British English. I haven't taken the time yet to look up the American equivalent of some of the ingredients listed by the author, but I know those aren't the same terms we have here. I wish I'd known that before I bought it, since there were other books that looked equally interesting. So the ideas seem good, although I havent tried them yet, but I'm not excited about the book. Pretty pictures.
