5.0 out of 5 stars Best fusion album ever!, August 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Baked Potato Super Live (Audio CD)
I heard this album when it first came out in '82. Twenty years later, it still captures the essense of what fusion could have (and should have) been. Like most fusion albums, this one is chock-full of tight, flashy performances. Unlike most fusion albums, however, this one delivers strong and memorable melodies. Not once is the musical statement sacrificed to the gods of flash. No exssesive soloing. No exssesive anything. I wish I had been there in person for this show. Whoever reissued this did the music world a HUGE favor...

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior Live, June 8, 2001

When i first listened to this album back in the eighties, i was stunned. How could a bunch of musicans create music with so much energy ? This is a liverecording from LA with two Toto-members, namely Steve Lukather and the late Jeff Porcaro, alongside with Greg Matieson and Pops Popwell (whoever he is). Lukather frenetic guitarrwork has never been better. So, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride...

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeff Porcaro's finest recorded performance!, February 15, 2008

You'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger fan of the late Jeff Porcaro than me, and this CD represents the awesome drummer that Jeff was and the chops that he had (the chops he always DENIED that he had because he was so humble) when he really cut loose and played free better than any recording I've ever heard. Thank God someone was there on that magical night and recorded this performance. There is simply no greater gift to true Jeff Porcaro fans than this recording. Get it if you love JP, no matter what the cost. You won't be sorry. It's unreal!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just piggybacking on what others have said thus far..., August 20, 2007
This review is from: Baked Potato Super Live (Audio CD)
When I first heard this back in the day, while in the office of a music magazine in Tokyo, where Lukather & Co. have long been worshipped, I just about fell out of my chair. Yes, all the performances are superb, but for those who worship at the six-string altar, Luke's playing is utter bliss. How about...ummm...the "Goodbye Eleanor" solo to the nth degree?

I had this on vinyl and must NOW own the CD...
