Editorial Reviews

Review

Most of the staff at Martingale & Company (parent company of That Patchwork Place) are quiltmakers. In this collaborative pattern book they challenged themselves to use the yummy precut assortments available today . . . we're talking jelly rolls, layer cakes, honey buns, turnovers, dessert rolls, fat quarters, and charm packs . . . to whip up a bakery case of delectable quilts.

Note: It isn't required to use precuts. Each set of instructions also gives fabric requirements for pulling from your stash or from bolts at the quilt shop. But just in case you have been tempted by those luscious jelly rolls, layer cakes, etc., the book gives information on how to handle them, sort them, to wash or not to wash, and what to do about those confusing pinked edges. It's a great resource for any quiltmaker. --Kay Mackenzie, allaboutapplique.net

This book has nothing to do with baking but rather cooking the quilt blocks! If you have ever bought a jelly roll or layer cake and it is lying around gathering dust, get yourself a copy of this wonderful book for 13 very good recipes for beautiful quilts. Some unusual shapes are used. I love the ladybirds (ladybugs) and the circle cushions. As with all That Patchwork Place books, it has good instructions with templates where necessary and great designs. --Karen Platt, Karen Platt's Book Reviews

From the staff at That Patchwork Place comes a book with a lot of variety. Using jelly rolls and layer cakes, they also incorporated honey buns (one and a half inch strips), fat quarters, and charm packs (5" squares). Since each quilt has a different designer, there are lots of beautiful takes on using these precut fabrics. Each pattern includes a "stash option" for those of us who haven't taken the precut plunge yet. --Stick Your Nose in a Book: Quilting Book Reviews by Jennifer Zoeterman

Another well-written book from That Patchwork Place! I admit to succumbing to the temptation to purchase a couple of those Jelly rolls -- but haven't quite figured out what I wanted to do with them. Until Now!!! I now have a whole selection of wonderful patterns! I love that the authors have also included a "stash option" that provides cutting requirements from yardage -- that was a really thoughtful feature that allows the patterns to be used in ways other than if you have those pretty little "rolls" or "cakes". The directions are well written with well-thought out graphics to support the text. The book is cohesive and clear -- which is important when there are so many quilt designers represented!!! I also like the fact that there's a small bio and photos of each of the designers!! It's fun to pick out a favorite pattern (Scrappy Hunter's Star in my case) and then go look up the bio and see what Regina Girard really looks like! It makes it so much more personal. Thank you for a fabulous new book!!

What a fun book, written by the staff at That Patchwork Place. I love that each quilt has its own unique personality. With all the fun jelly rolls, layer cakes, and charm packs available it is always great to have new ways to use them. The quilts in this book are beautiful, and there is a design for everyone to love. There are very simple designs, as well as designs that look complicated but aren't. Each time I turn the page, I get excited about the next quilt.

The instructions for this book are easy to read and follow, and are the perfect companion to such fun quilts.

Wow, what variety and versatility in the use of Jelly's, layers and etc. I haven't used any in the past but now have an excuse to get going on this new time saving element. The look of the book is great and the instructions clear and concise with lots of diagrams. I like seeing the quilts fully displayed and not draped over something where only part of the design elements show. Another winner from That Patchwork Place.

As I flip through this book I am inspired. Each quilt is different and each has pictures and instructions for techniques not used everyday in quilting-not hard, just different.
I have always seen those beautiful jelly rolls and layer cakes, but resisted purchasing because I didn't have a good excuse...but, now I do!!!

I'm glad this book offered the Search Inside the Book feature because it allowed me to see how varied the patterns were. Being new to quilting, I'm inspired by how many options the book offers, style-wise and level of difficulty. And because pre-cut fabrics really appeal to me, the book scores points with me about that, too. I can't wait to get started.
