Book Description

Francis Baker’s flair as a thief is unmatched when it comes to his skill at remaining undetected, whether as a pickpocket or committing a burglary. The suspense builds after he falls into the clutches of a gang of criminals who wish to make use of his abilities. They get more than they bargained for since he escapes and turns the tables on them. In the process, he also badly embarrasses the FBI, so now he has more than one powerful organization interested in locating where he has gone.
A continent away, he attempts to straighten out his life by becoming an honest, law-abiding citizen, and escape the notice of those searching for him. Unfortunately, he has picked up a raging case of kleptomania, not the safest of maladies to have if you’re a wannabe ex- thief, who wishes to remain unnoticed.
Francis is once more discovered by his enemies. All he holds dear is threatened with death and destruction. He takes violent action to combat the forces bringing chaos to his life. Murder, mayhem, love and kleptomania are mixed together with a dusting of humor in this suspense-filled murder mystery.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful surprise for a first book! August 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having the hero be a thief was a good twist to a suspense-mystery story. Additionally, having him become a kleptomaniac was great, and the author did an outstanding job of working this into the storyline. The story was plausible and interesting, plus had tension on almost every page, which made it hard to put down. The touches of humor that wound through the novel felt natural and unforced. Above all, the action scenes were masterfully done. The plot had twists and turns, but I followed them to the end with no problem.
I thought the story was an enjoyable read, and left me waiting for his next book. Can't wait 'til it's out!

An easy read with interesting locale.
Unfortunately, the red herrings made it easy to figure out the bad guy - but the ending was perfect.

Thought the story line was good. The ending was weak and disappointed me as it just meandered around a lot,

The book flowed, never a dull moment. It was full of surprises from beginning to end, especially the end. Mr Loomis knows how to spin a tale.

More About the Author

A long time ago in a faraway land known as Oregon, I began my journey as a writer, when I wrote a short story for Boy's Life magazine. Thus began an itch that had to be scratched--the desire to write. After decades as a technical writer and several non-fiction works, retirement happened. Suddenly, the Muse pointed in a different direction, and I began writing fiction again. I recently published two novels (Baker's Gold and Baker's Redemption) on Kindle, and also have a short story collection (Bedtime Stories for Grownups) that is now available. Two science fiction novels are being prepped, and will hopefully see the light of publishing in 2014.
Where will this tale of a writer haunted by two genres end? Only the Muse knows...
