4.0 out of 5 stars Nice product with many uses, but a bit of a pain to clean, June 26, 2006

This review is from: Baker's Secret 10-by-16-Inch Nonstick Cooling Rack, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
A passionate home cook that has been honing her cooking skills for the last 25 years writes this review. My favorite cookbooks are "The Professional Chef" by the Culinary Institute and "Culinary Artistry. Cooking is my form of therapy. I have owned my set of these for a couple of years. I use these every few days in my kitchen.

Pros:
1. Excellent for cooling muffins, cookies, and other baked goods
2. Great for draining deep fried foods in you put this rack into a standard half sheet pan
3. Useful for "air frying" food in the oven
4. Handy for holding bakery products that are to decorated with chocolate. I place this rack in a half sheet pan and decorate away. The sheet pan contains the chocolate that misses the cakes and cookies when I am playing Jackson Pollack with food.
5. Wonderful for "frying" bacon in the oven (no grease on the stove). And the half sheet pan contains the grease.

Cons:
1. This pan is about an inch smaller than a half sheet pan, and that gap is a little annoying
2. These racks are a pain to clean. They are absolutely NOT non-stick. I soak mine in the sink with HOT water and a little dishwasher detergent and then use a brush to scrub. This is the only method that I have found to get them clean. Even a steam cleaner didn't work.

Overall, I use these racks every few days in my kitchen. They are very handy to have. I would have given them 5 stars if they were easier to clean. Until I stumbled across the dishwasher detergent trick I was considering throwing them away, but now they are less of a hassle. If only they were just a tad bigger. Be certain to measure your baking sheets before you order these. In order to get the maximum versatility from these racks, you to need to have a couple of shallow baking sheets with rims for them to fit into.

2.0 out of 5 stars False advertising, October 29, 2005

These are not non-stick racks.
They are spot welded thin wire racks that have a chrome appearance which, if chrome, is easier to clean but certainly is not a non-stick surface.
The package cover states "Dishwasher Safe - Easy Clean" and NOWHERE does the term "non-stick" appear on the package.

Definitely for bread/bake-stuff and not for cooling anything that might have a sticky substance in/on it. Nothing hot and still soft can go on the rack, unless you want a square grid pattern...
You cannot use them in an hot area such as oven/BBQ or like a trivet. You cannot use any "abrasive" cleaner or pad on them either which means a long soak and scrubbing with rag/sponge if something is stuck to the surface.
Once the surface becomes scratched, it will rust very quickly so what they really mean by "Nonstick" is that you need to use kitchen utensils that are made for nonstick coatings to place/remove items on the racks.

I was going to use them for cooling bread-stuff as well as items that need to drip grease off of them before storing in the fridge/freezer(e.g., sausage, smoked & BBQ...).

One out of two is okay for me but I am NOT happy that "Nonstick" is being advertised. The dishwasher here(*me*) does not work real good... :)

Basically, cheap, use for a while and then throw away product...

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 stars because they are tough to beat at the price, September 11, 2005

Ok, these are cooling racks and inexpensive racks at that. They are large enough for two french breads or a tray of cookies. There is really only one issue: The feet are too far from the edge and the rack tips up easily if you start loading the stuff to cool at the end first. So I learned to put it in the middle first. Not a burden and the racks are so inexpensive.
