This wonderful book is one of my cooking secrets!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bakery Lane Soup Bowl Cook Book (Paperback)
I love this book, and am happy to see it is still available. The soups in here are delicious and foolproof, and the cakes and desserts are the sort that people will think are made from Grandma's old family recipe. The flourless chocolate cake is superb and amazingly easy. (I can't believe I'm recommending this book and giving away my secret source!)

Visited this little restaurant in Middlebury, Vermont many times, many years ago. This cookbook captures the quality and creativity of the Soup Bowl's menu and has been a perennial in my kitchen for close to 25 years. Don't be disappointed by what seems like a small number of recipes, they are all terrific.

A good book for a novice cook,
This review is from: The Bakery Lane Soup Bowl Cook Book (Paperback)
I bought this book about 20 years ago, and it has a 1970's appeal to it. The foods remind me of little restaurant you might stumble across and be delighted to find that they serve decent, wholesome food. I especially like the Cheddar Cheese Soup, and they offer some basic salad recipes that one can follow verbatim or use as a springboard for your own creations. This would make a good gift for a novice cook because it offers many familiar recipes that are easy to make.

I used to work as a waitress at the Bakery Lane Soup Bowl when I was in college. The soup and bread and desserts were great then. And with the help of this book you can keep these wonderfully homey dishes alive years after the restaurant has passed on!

I came by this cookbook by way of a patient giving it away because she no longer cooked. Since I am an avid cook I gladly accepted it. The recipes have an old East Coast flavor. My 2 favorite recipes are: Shaker Chicken and Noodle Soup and Fresh Apple cake with Caramel Frosting which I just finished icing today.

I love this cookbook and cook from it all the time. When I was a teenager I used to cook and waitress in this restaurant for these lovely women, Joan and Marge. They have long moved away from Middlebury Vermont and closed the Soup Bowl Restaurant and moved to Arizona. I have been looking for them for many years to reconnect. I fear they are very old, or worse, passed on. If anyone knows where they are (Joan Sedgwick and Marge Mitchell, of Prescott Arizona or thereabouts), I am looking for them desperately. I've tried many other ways...Kandi Heller, 544 Dog Team Road, New Haven, VT 05472 802-453-3536

Many years ago, my husband and I happened upon this wonderful little restaurant on a vacation in Vermont. I have since referred to their cookbook on many occasions. Some of my favorite recipes are the tomato quiche and the curried chicken and rice salad. This book is truly a little treasure.

Best cookbook I have ever owned,
This review is from: The Bakery Lane Soup Bowl Cook Book (Paperback)
Bakery Lane Soup Bowl is by far the best cookbook I have ever owned.I received it as a gift in March of 1976. I love the Minestrone Soup and the Bran Wheat Bread. I have some bread raising as I speak. All recipes are tried and true. A real treasure.

Shortly after I moved to Prescott, AZ in 1976, a new restaurant opened on Whiskey Row. It was called "Maude's", after the owner's cat. The owners were Joan Sedgwick and Marge Mitchell. The food was extraordinary; bread, soup, desserts, sandwiches, occasional Sunday brunch; all wonderful. After many years (?), Joan and Marge moved to Jerome, AZ, a charming old copper mining town about 25 miles from Prescott, and opened another restaurant. I had their cook book for years, and I fear that I loaned it to someone who loved and enjoyed it as much as I, since I no longer have the book. Of course I would love to replace the book, but can anyone tell me why this cook book is listed in the hundreds of dollars? Thanks!. . .Marcie

I had the original of this great cookbook but it was long lost in various moves. I am so glad to find it again and I have ordered Soup Bowl West (which I also lost) as well. Great simple soup, bread, salad recipes.
