5.0 out of 5 stars Much needed DVD promoting cultural exposure/understanding
As a mother, grandmother, educator and therapist I found this video refreshing and educational. I bought several for Christmas presents and the kids loved them. My biggest surprise came with children younger than the target age (3 - 8). My 10 month old niece and 5 month old grandson were enthralled by the colors, sounds and movement. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good but short
Both kids, 5 and 2, enjoyed this on our recent car trip but it seemed like it was over before it started. It is a wonderful concept and there are many, many more cultures that could have been explored so it really seemed too short to appreciate. If you don't mind that, it is a nice educational show.

My 5 month old grandson lit up with joy and reached for Baku each time he came on the screen. Aunt Sydney was both nurturing and exciting bringing the educational aspect to life. (I wish we had more teachers in the schools who could disseminate knowledge in such an engaging fashion.) I loved the cultural theme, introducing children to different cultures and languages through the use of puppetry (Baku and Scrapbook), animation (Baku's travel bag and Compass), dance (Lebanon), food (Mexico and India), and dress (India and Mexico). It was delightful seeing children representing differing races, as well as actual footage from the different countries. The use of the globe tangibly helps children begin to see that our world is broader and more varied than their little neighborhoods and understand that although we have differences we are still similar. I highly recommend this DVD and eagerly anticipate future episodes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to share culture with kids, May 24, 2005
By
This review is from: Baku The Travel Bug Episode 1: Making Friends Around The World (DVD)
I got this DVD for my niece (9yrs.) and nephews (5 and 3yrs.) and so far have watched it with the little one. He really liked the DVD and I thought it was a wonderful presentation of teaching about different cultures with kids. The Mexican food cooking scenes, the Indian clothing, and Lebanese dancing was entertaining and well done. My nephew also loved seeing the cute little bug. I highly recommend this DVD!!

It was quite interesting to see how an Indian sari is worn! I thought the subject was treated very well and I hadn't ever seen anything like it on educational videos before. My 3-year-old loves Indian sweets and enjoyed watching Baku go after "mithai". Great debut and I hope there are more coming!

4.0 out of 5 stars Baku won't be traveling from our house, February 27, 2005
This review is from: Baku The Travel Bug Episode 1: Making Friends Around The World (DVD)
My children are 4 and 5 years old. They sat thru the entire video and when it was over they asked immediatly "will you play it again Mommy?" Now they walk through the house asking me for words in Spanish and will also talk to the lady from India at Sams Club about her outfits etc.. All stuff they learned from Baku.
It was fun and educational. And Aunt Sydney is just awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars Interactive and learning experience, May 31, 2005

Our three years old boy love this DVD. Since his uncle gave it to him he goes around the house with the box asking everybody for help to play it. He sings, dance and repeat everything what it is shown. It is for sure an interactive, motivating and a learning experience for him.

I found this dvd to be very informative and my 3 year-old just loved it. Baku, the bug, is really cute and goofie. There are various segments that explore different cultures. One segment covers Mexico. The children cook food and recite the spanish names of what they are cooking. My daughter memorized the words (and uses them all the time)! Looking forward to the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful!, February 18, 2005
This review is from: Baku The Travel Bug Episode 1: Making Friends Around The World (DVD)
As a "non-mom" I purchased Baku for a 3-yr old, 4-yr old and 6-yr old for Christmas (all different families). I've been told ALL the kids adore Baku, Aunt Sydney and all the "adventures" and watch this DVD over and over. The mom's LOVE this DVD because their kids love it so much!

5.0 out of 5 stars A timely tool for kids, February 15, 2005
This review is from: Baku The Travel Bug Episode 1: Making Friends Around The World (DVD)
This morning discussing the headlines I mentioned the bombing in Beirut to my husband and my 3-year-old son piped up "Lebanon." I thought Baku would be a wonderful educational addition to our video library but it has far surpassed my expectations. My son loves Baku. He repeats many of the phrases in the various segments including words in other languages and talks about the other children as his friends. I think this is a wonderful tool to teach kids about diversity and other cultures in a fun and playful way. I am so pleased that we can get him excited to learn about other parts of the world.
