Get In On the Bakugan Craze
For those who are unfamiliar, Bakugan is an inventive strategy game based on the popular anime TV series, "Bakugan: Battle Brawlers." It pits a variety of "Bakugan warriors" against each other for points. The Bakugan themselves are magnetic, spring-loaded marbles that -- when exposed to a metal "gate card" -- burst open to reveal a fearsome warrior.

The mission of the Bakugan strategy game is to capture the opponent's metal gate cards. This is achieved by rolling your Bakugan warriors onto these cards and doing battle with defending enemy Bakugan. The game involves a surprising amount of strategy, and features various tactical cards and trap pieces that help protect your Bakugan warriors.

Room for the Imagination
This game combines skill (aiming your Bakugan) with strategy (placement of the cards). Players also enjoy the way the warriors pop open on the magnetic cards -- although sometimes they do it even when they don't land on the cards. Players unfamiliar with the TV show, may feel a little lost at first in the world of Bakugan. But with the help of the colorful, animated Bakugan Web site, they will get what the game is about and how to play.

Even without the official strategy game, Bakugan toys are enjoyable and can be played with like regular action figures. Fans of the show will like role-playing as one of the various characters, such as the fiery 12-year-old leader "Dan" or the wise "Marucho."

Maxus Dragonoid Expands Your Bakugan Collection
This particular set contains one Bakugan warrior (named Neo Dragonoid) and six Bakugan traps (Grakas Hound, Dark Hound, Grafias, Brachium, Spitarm and SpyderFencer.) These pieces can be combined together to form the massive Maxus Dragonoid monster. The transformation process is a bit complicated, but the set includes clear instructions that make assembly easy. The assembled Dragonoid is a unique toy, although a bit unwieldy -- if not positioned correctly, he will easily fall down.

Each of the seven Bakugan that compose Dragonoid can be used individually in the strategy game. Avid players will be happy to know that this set also includes a special ability card, which will come in handy when you're devising a strategy to topple your enemy. Just keep in mind that, in order to play Bakugan properly, you'll need several other Bakugan marbles/cards that are not included in this package. Kids who are new to Bakugan might be better off with one of the various starter packs.

What's in the Box
One Bakugan warrior, 6 Bakugan traps, ability card and metal gate card.

Maxus Dragonoid disassembles into smaller Bakugan that can be used in the official strategy game.

4.0 out of 5 stars The next phase of Bakugan November 2, 2009

My child received this for their 7th birthday and loved it! However, they love all the Bakugan stuff, so that's not so surprising. That this can be connected to make one big toy is pretty cool, and more single Bakugan balls are coming out that can connect to these also. Bakugan is doing a good job of keeping their ideas fresh, and creative. We don't watch the cartoons, as they are too mean-spirited. The toys by themselves are fine though.

The price point on this is a tad high, which means it ends up being a "special" gift, and not an every day one, so they aren't selling very many. It's obvious a lot of thought and skill goes into creating these plastic balls that "transform" instantly into creatures (when put on any metal surface.

They have already designed more of these- the next one being silver or gray or something.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the Ultimate Bakugan Fan November 17, 2009
Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This is a 7piece toy comprised of 6 Bakugan Traps and 1 Bakugan Figure. The set is composed of the figures, as well as the Gate Card and Special Ability Card. My daughter has numerous Battle Packs, traps, Bakugan Deka, the arena, the launcher and Bakugan Gauntlet (in addition to the Bakugan DS game).

The toy comes in the box as separate figures and step by step instructions are necessary to aassemble the Maximus Dragonoid. Assembly took about 20 minutes, the first time. Instructions are only graphical drawings and not too easy to follow. Once assembled the figure is not as big as I had anticipated on the packaging. Personally, i was not impressed but my 9 year loves it. She likes the ability to use the traps when playing the Bakugan with her other Bakugan Figures.

As for an action set, I question the durability with non-game play (ie as standalone action figures) - given the spring loaded mechanisms and delicate small parts. I do not recommend this for households with children under 5 given the high choking potential. This set is more ideal for kids aged 7 and above - depending upon how gingerly or harsh your child plays with his or her toys.

For the price, this toy is a touch overpriced and I recommend waiting for a price drop by at least $5 to $10. However, the the unique nature of a modular toy, this set is amazing. I recommend this for the Ultimate Bakugan Fan and not for the casual gamer.

Despite its limitations, it is still a very good toy.

We looked everywhere for this toy for my son's birthday. We could only find it on-line. Seems the stores are all sold out. It is the biggest deal in Bakugan right now. We were excited to get it, and I opened the packaging, since there are so many little rubber bands tio hold it in place. And that's where the problem started. The head piece has two shoulder wings, or something, that rotate in and out. They were set at opened in the package with tiny rubber bands holding each. After CAREFULLY removing the rubberbands, we start to assemble the pieces. The first thing to happen was one of those wings just fell off. Snapped rigth off. I was super careful taking it out of the package, asI saw potential for trouble, but no matter how careful I was, the stress on the tiny piece weakened it enough that the first time my son tried to fold it in, it snapped right off! Besides this overpackaging flaw, it is really fun. Yooou can play with them seperate, or assemble the biggest bakugan of all! It is smaller than the comercials make it appear, though, but the assembly takes some work and some figuring, and some patience, which I think is good. Just be so careful with those wing tips and all the rubber bands!

My grandson loves this item! Brings it to the house each time he visits. And he's tickled that the 7 creatures can be combined into 1 huge creature. I am not familiar with the idea behind these items, but I do know my grandson loves it!

Bought this for my son's birthday, who has Bakugan fever right now. He LOVED it. He plays with it all the time.
As for my opinion, I found it quite expensive, but then all bakugans are, so I guess it is expected since this one has 7 pieces in the box. All pieces can be used individually as regular bakugans or mounted together to form a super robot. The durability is the same as in regular bakugans, They are quite fragile, so I do not recommend them for children under at least 7 years old.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cool, but not for a young kid January 3, 2010

Got this for my almost 5 year old kid, who loves bakugan. He always looks for the obscure and difficult to find bakugan, and this was the first time I saw something similar.

The product itself is great, he actually asked me if this was a transformer-bakugan. The only issue is that it is way too dificult for a young kid to combine all the pieces. Even an older 7 year old couldn't do it.

Other than that, it is pretty good. So if you have time to play with your kid and help him put together all the pieces, go for it. Otherwise, buy 6 bakugan balls and forget about this.

My son who is almost 8 could not wait to get this item. He saw it at a recent bakugan product showing and it has lived up to his expectations. Great idea by bakugan to make the toy transformer like. He loves moving it around to try and create different creatures. One small negative with the toy, and it is the case with many of the bakugans, is that some of the pieces do not pop out. He doesn't seem to mind taking the end of a paper clip to pry it out. The price is about right since you get 7 balls in the kit. He likes that he can use the single balls in battles and form the large creature. This was a hard to find item and it was not stocked in any of the stores since I began looking in mid October.
