4.0 out of 5 stars Some of the best Roxette songs..., November 3, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Baladas En Espanol (Audio CD)
Marie sings almost perfect in Spanish; maybe her only noticeable flaw is on the sound of T's (she pronounce them a little bit hard). In the other hand, Per Gessle has indeed trouble with Spanish. But the sound of the album is pretty good and is a fine attempt. I like it. The reason I don't give it 5 stars is because the persons that made the Spanish versions of the songs didn't respect the meaning of the original lyrics in a couple of them. I understand is difficult to make English-Spanish translations for songs, because of the ritm and the differences between both languages (words in Spanish are larger), but Per Gessle is a wonderful composer and his songs deserve more respect, so I can't stand a beautiful song being changed on its spirit (i.e. the Spanish version for "I don't want to get hurt" is "Quiero ser como tú", wich means 'I want to be like you'). Despite this, Marie Fredriksson sings like a goddess and you can hear different sounds on her voice; and the melodies are as marvelous as always.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adds another dimension, June 8, 2006
By
This review is from: Baladas En Espanol (Audio CD)
I don't know much Spanish but this album makes me want to learn. Spanish is a very romantic language I think and hence good for their ballads. It doesn't matter to me that it doesn't quite translate cos I don;t understand it anyway. Its more the different feeling and dimension that Spanish gives. It adds a different quality to the music which I like. Spanish is a very feeling language I think.
This is a great album for romance whether you speak Spanish or not. Spending My Time, Crash Boom Bang and particularly Vulnerable or Timida are the best. I even learnt the Spanish version of this song to play on guitar it just adds a new dimension to the song and their was this cute Columbian girl who I wanted to impress. It must Have Been Love is also nice. In fact damn they all are but I think my fave is Timida. One discrepancy - note that Run To You is considered a ballad on here and yet a pop hit. I think myself it more of a ballad and should have been replaced by something else on the Pop Hits album like Fireworks which is a cool song and people need to hear it damn it.
Ah well. Opportunity nox and Little Miss Sorrow could have been put on the other CD with Bla Bla Bla and Stupid and they could have dropped the other two. Anyway my gripe.
The other ballads on this album are also some of Roxette's best songs that should have been singles in my opinion. Watercolours in the Rain, I'm Sorry and Perfect Day are all awesome awesome songs.
