3.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy into the hype. It is that good but there is better
This Cd is really good. No seriously, it is probably one of the most interesting mixes for 2005. There is only one problem. James Holden. His balance installment makes masiello's look like something my kid sister would do;It is that good. But whether you like it or not you have to give Masiello plenty of Kudos for coming up with a mixing stlye and track selection that is...

While you can certainly group this into the large spectrum known as progressive house, there are only a few real progressive tracks on here, and some tech house, but the rest is simply the best pure house music currently on offer. There isn't a single house CD that is going to move you as much as this one. Full of funky, infectious beats, with basslines and disco melodies to keep any dance floor in a frenzy.

There really is only one negative to both CD's: I wanted them to go on longer than the amount of music able to fit onto one CD. At the end of each disc, you are left drooling for more, and do not want these beats to ever stop. Apart from 3 weaker tracks in the middle of disc 1 (tracks 4-6 to be exact), both are superb. Disc 2 is the real stunner, without a dull track in sight, but both discs feature some monster tracks!

Disc 1 starts off progressive with Will Saul's Mbira and the first 3 tracks are solid. It gets a little weak with some rather dull disco tracks from 4-6, and I didn't care for the vocals in track 5 at all. The rest of the disc really gets moving with some pure house sounds, and climaxes with the incredible track, Our Lips are Sealed by The Visitor. You get a hot new update of Soulsearchers Can't Get Enough by Derek Howell, and the BPM's really pick up at the end of this mix, giving you a taste of what's coming on disc 2. The last track, Piano Tool, of course features some piano in it, and this track and all the other disco sounding stuff on here are great, with the exception of those few tracks I mentioned. I usually am picky about disco sounding house, but I can assure you, that it's not the cheesy kind on here, and just wait 'til you hear what you get on disc 2!

After the downtempo sounds gradually got faster and faster throughout disc 1, culminating in some high energy dance floor house which left you begging for more, Desyn chooses to slow things down for the start of disc 2, with the now classic ambient track, Halcyon+On+On. The pace quickly picks back up with some sweaty house tracks, and the music is at a solid dance floor pace throughout.

Once we get to track 9, prepare yourself for a dose of the hottest combination of tracks you will hear on any dance CD this year. It starts with the groovy Time for Change and kicks into a scorching Raul Rincon remix of Coburn's We Interrupt this Program. The original version had a decent melody and has been a DJ staple as of late, but prepare for the track to hit a new high with this remix. Then Desyn drops the bomb of a track Make a Move on Me, and I don't care who you are, where you are, or how you feel at that moment, but when this track hits, it's guaranteed to make anyone move. I can't even imagine the frenzy at a club after hearing these 3 tracks in row. Desyn certainly knows how to move a crowd! It seems like he set you up the entire mix just to blow it up right here!

The last 3 tracks get into some nice tech sounds, and at the end, I was left feeling this needed to be a 3 disc or 4 disc set, because I just couldn't get enough. This is simply the best pure house mix right now, and one you cannot miss!

5.0 out of 5 stars Writing the book on Follow up Albums, November 22, 2005
This review is from: Balance 008 (Audio CD)
Not only is Desyn taking the balance series to new heights, he is following up on an excellent O.S. album released last year. This cd is the cream of the crop at the moment. Some of the best dance music combined with some superb mixing. The first disc is one of the best introductory cds I have ever heard and progresses smooth as H*ll. The Visitor's song on this cd is up there with one of the best tracks I have heard in my life. And the fact that Desyn definately knows the quality of this track is great. He could be like some djs and cut the best track on their cd short (George Acosta with SINRJE) or he could base his entire first album around coming to this one excellent perfect track and play it for 9 minutes. Well that explains my love for that song.

Anyway disc 2 has no flaws and has one of the best endings on a progressive house cd to date. Like the doc said you will not want this cd to end, ever. The ending made me want to listen to it again with the abrubt stop that came entirely too soon. This feeling stems from the feeling that you are on a dance floor grooving to the greatest prog. house beats this year. Desyn has put himself in the forefront of this scene and is not a dj to be missed. Buy this album without hesitation. Damn near perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Dear God., March 16, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Balance 008 (Audio CD)
Let me start out by saying I have every Balance cd, I'm an aussie so i love supporting the Balance series. I didn't think things could get much better than Anthony Pappa's mix on Balance 006. Oh lord how i was wrong. This is the epitome of house music in my opinion. So many deep chunky basslines supported by heavy beats all topped off with some of the best melodies i've heard in house music. Not to mention the amazing job Desyn does with the mixing, it's all so smooth.

Ok I rarely review cds, I am a VERY picky person. I'm angry if I've bought a cd and theres 2 songs on it that I don't like. I can gladly say that with this cd, i love every song to bits.

It's hard for me to understand why people would find this cd boring, I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion etc.. But DAMN!

If you like house music or indeed EDM in general, you will love Desyn Masiello:Balance008

5.0 out of 5 stars Desyn=Perfection....what else did you expect?, November 18, 2005
This review is from: Balance 008 (Audio CD)
Once again Desyn Masiello layes down some of the freshest, funkiest, and just flat out banging tracks on this new release from Balance. Balance 008 has proven that Desyn Masiello is one of the most diverse DJs at the moment. You really cannot pinpoint what style of house (ie progressive, acid, whatever)he brings to this mix, but let me tell you this, it is truly an amazing mix. I am digging Cd1 a bit more than cd2 I just love the flow and mixing tracks 1-4 flow oh so smooth. "Neo"house is what the author in the sleeve notes call it. What ever it is its just GREAT MUSIC, and any one who apprecites any type of house, trance, progressive should enjoy Balance 008 by Desyn Masiello.

5.0 out of 5 stars An expertly crafted album from Mr. Masiello., January 7, 2006
This review is from: Balance 008 (Audio CD)
Let me just say, THANK YOU to all who gave props to this album... its just thrilling. I have company over now, and we're all getting mad enjoyment out of it. What beautifully sexy and spine tingling grooves by this man!!!! I'd hate to say "high energy" because that term just doesn't fit... but lets just comment that I was feeling drab earlier and now I'm shaking my buns all over the apartment.

Similar to the same enjoyment I experienced when hearing Danny Howell's GU21 album for the first time, or maybe even Sander's Everybody album... or Roger Sanchez's Release Yourself 4... or Zabiela's Utilities.... though none of these describe the type of music really. Its that "epiphany" feeling, where you're just smiling and loving it, like WHOA this is great stuff. Its got a very extraordinary appeal, from a relatively new talent whom I feel will be around for a long time.

It hooked me from the beginning and I haven't been bored for a millisecond. GOD I love giving my hard earned money to fantastic artists!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing....dont let one star review fool you!, February 4, 2006

This is more than 5 stars, if I could give it 6 I would...I agree with the reviewer that says it is the best compilation of 2005. Masiello's track selection and order is perfect, and this is not your standard progressive house mix in the sense that he has a whole new, fresh sound. He has taken prog house and taken it one step forward. So in my opinion, the person that gave it one star probably has not heard this enough to really appreciate. ALL I CAN SAY IS: BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT NOW!!
ps. I had the chance to listen to him because he came to where I live, Monterrey Mexico, i met him and he is also a really nice guy. His live set was incredible as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Stuff!, May 24, 2006

This is a nice deep house production. If you like this, check out the first full length CD for producer Quentin Allen as Karu. There are other 12" releases on Silver Network, Dadhouse, Winding Road, Mimosa & Smooth Agent. This CD is a very consistant production with a good blend of jazz, hip-hop, techno, neo-soul, and deep house all together. The beats are very crisp and sound good in the car, the house or the club. Some songs tastefully use vocal snippets to add flavor. There is even a track featuring Warren Harris aka Hanna (Shadow Records, Silver Network, Flat & Round, Freerange). If you want good quality deep house, this CD is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressed!!, December 9, 2005

This review is from: Balance 008 (Audio CD)
Wow...I have to say that I was very impressed by this most recent Balance release. Masiello shows us all why he is now in the DJ spotlight. Both discs are fairly different in my opinion. Disc 1 starts out with a fantastic track by Will Saul which sets the stage for the entire album. We then progress through an excellent track selection that makes you want more and more.
Disc 2 is quite different as it starts out a little slower and more progressive. Whatever Desyn had in mind for both discs is definatly working at this point. I would have to agree with the other reviews in that the end of disc 2 is epic. It ends a little early...but starting with track 12 you will get chills up and down your spine.

Not to be missed.
