Book Description

December 31, 2000
What exactly is the basis for the Catholic Churchs belief in the role of the Pope What does the Catholic Church mean when it teaches that the Pope is Christs Vicar on earth And what does this teaching mean for Christians of other faith traditions Robert Stackpole STD addresses thoughtprovoking questions in his book St. Peter Lives in Rome which has been rereleased in this expanded and revised edition. Dr. Stackpole presents new evidence of support from the early Christian era for the papacy and even includes a timeline entitled Important Dates in the Early Story of the Petrine Primacy. Readers will be fascinated by this study that clears away misunderstandings about the papacy and clarifies its foundations in Scripture and early Church history.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK, May 26, 2011
This review is from: Balance Of Power (Paperback)
This book by John E. Peterson is just OK as far as handstand training goes. I remember reading on the John's forum that he "left no stone unturned" or something to that effect, meaning that he covered everything a person needed to know about handstand training. Actually John left several stones unturned. First of all the book is 101 pages in length and the first 74 pages are devoted to general strength and conditioning exercises. Most of these exercises can be found in Peterson's other book "Pushing Yourself to Power" or online for free. John doesn't even address handstand training until the last 25 pages of the book. Even then he essentially glosses over the exercises and provides very little in the way of detail. Also, John unfortunately neglected one of the most important aspects of handstand training, the conditioning of the hands, wrists, and forearms. Generally kicking up into a handstand is fairly easy after a few tries but the hard part is bearing the entire weight of the body on the hands and wrists. I ran into wrists issues because I avoided the wrist-specific conditioning that is recommended by well-known practitioners of this unique strength art. In short, if you are interested in a basic strength manual that addresses handstand training then this may be of interest to you. However, if you are interested in gaining as much knowledge about handstand training as you can I would recommend "Hand-Balancing for Muscular Development" by Bill Hinburn instead. Bill's manual goes into great detail and has a section devoted to wrist conditioning as well. The cost is the same for both books and you definitely get more bang for the buck with Hinburn's book. Not to mention that the illustrations are nicer in Hinburn's book as well.
