First of all, the time and commitment by the author to create "Balancing the Sword" is apparent the moment you see these books. This is one exhaustive / comprehensive program. My 8th grade daughter is currently working her way through the first volume. I thought the size would deter her but I encouraged her to stick with it for at least 2 months. Both she and I are so grateful she did. There is no guided instruction and the author does not tell you "what you should think". He basically takes you though the Bible step-by-step and the questions are taken directly from Scripture. These two volumes (from a homeschooler's perspective) would be enough to provide for a complete, sound, and thorough Bible curriculum at the Middle-High School Level for independent students or a family Bible study. This is definite BIBLE study, pure and simple.
