This book is largely a regurgitation of the very limited information that is already widely available. Reading it was superfluous. Most of what Kobren covers is cosmetic management of the problem; the advice on diet applies only to the worst lifestyle offenders, and he paints finasteride (Propecia) as a panacea, which it definitely isn't. The book is thin, both physically and in terms of content.

The irony is that Kobren claims to be a debunker and "consumer advocate", and this book is supposed to be his vehicle. To an experienced eye, it just looks like he is joining the rush to make money from male insecurities about hair loss.

The answers to male pattern baldness will come, eventually, but they won't be found in this book. Save your money, do your own research, talk to a dermatologist, take care of your health (good advice anyway), and you'll be further ahead than you will be after reading this.

Eight years ago I began to lose my hair and I bought and tried every product available on the market but there were more hops than results. However, when I read "The Bald Truth" I focused my attention to Finasteride. And now after six month of using it, my hair-loss stoped and new hair is growing in my head, really! That's why I'm proud to say that this is the best book I've read over the matter, thanks to Mr. Kobren

I've been listening to Spencer Kobren's radio program "The Bald Truth" through his web site www.thebaldtruth.org for about four weeks. At first I was a bit skeptical, but after listening to the way he fielded people's questions I realized that this guy is for real. So I decided to pick up his book. WOW, I was truly impressed with what this young guy has been able to accomplish! I'm 44 years old and have been losing my hair for what seems like an eternity. After reading The Bald Truth I truly felt that there may be help for me yet. It's a fast, easy read, packed with information that all of us suffering with hair loss need. If you are concerned with hair loss Spencer is definitely the guy to turn to! I've read the other reviews and would also like to say THANK YOU to Mr. Kobren for understanding that this subject is so important to so many millions of us. Keep up the fine work!

If you are living in 1998 this book is excellent for you! But if you need something fresh and REALY usefull I think you should search internet.

The Bald Truth by Spencer Kobren is a well written wellresearched book. The author's knowledge and attention to detail isclearly evident throughout the book. He identifies and highlights perfectly the many and varied pitfalls which the balding guy can experience when looking for treatment. He is brutally honest which is refreshing especially when dealing with this sensitive topic. The major advantage of this book is that it equips the reader with the knowledge needed to make an informed choice on the particular treatment he/she wants to use. The one disadvantage regarding this book is that he fails to see the advantage of using Propecia in combination with Regaine (Minoxidal). His points on the latter drug are valid when used on its own. However his intuition should tell him that the drugs combined yield greater results than if either are taken on their own. However this is a small quibble about a book which one could entitle :The Bald Truth - The essential guide in understanding and treating Male Patten Baldness (MPB)

This extremely well written book is truly The First COMPLETE Guide to Preventing and Treating Hair Loss. Kobren's approach is quite refreshing. He provides the reader with every thing he/she needs to make an informed decision about combating hair loss. After reading his book I had a better understanding of what my options were and what to avoid. I was able to relate to his personal struggle which gave me a sense of kinship with the author. I think that his efforts have already had a profoundly positive impact on this insidious and parasitic industry. I was horrified to see what had happened to The Hair Restoration Casualties and was left with a feeling of empowerment after putting the book down. I refer to it almost on a daily basis. It's much easier to turn to this handy guide than to search the net for info which is usually conflicting. Kobren takes a strong stand and tells it like it is. He doesn't pull any punches and that's what makes this book so powerful. I recently began to listen to his radio program in LA. His sincerity is at times overwhelming and adds to his credibility. His delivery is both inspiring and compassionate. Even though he tries to bring new subject matter to each show he is still willing to go off topic to answer all the questions that come his way, no matter how silly some may be. He treats people with the utmost respect and ads a sense of dignity to talk radio that is seldom heard. I admire this man more than mere words can say. He has been able to bring attention to this devastating problem in a way that no one in history has ever been able accomplish. He has answered my countless e-mail questions with intelligent and enlightening answers. I want to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Kobren for what he has done. He has provided me with hope and I can't thank him enough. I know it's been said here before, but God bless you Spencer. If you believe in karma, your in for a wonderful life. If I could give it TEN stars I would!

Dr. Norwood was right when he wrote that "Every balding man should read this book." I can't get over how much information Mr. Kobren was able to put in this paperback. I bought the book about 5 months ago, followed his treatment plan and have STOPPED my hair loss! It's so wonderful to feel good about my self again. If anyone out there is wondering whether or not to pick this gem up, JUST DO IT, It has changed my life and words can't describe just how truly grateful I am to this man. JUST DO IT people, it will be the best investment in yourself you can ever make!

This is a very well researched source of information on various types of hair-loss treatment. The author speaks from experience with successfully combating hair loss after extensive research on various products. I think that makes the book more credible than the self-promoting product sites out there. The author covers virtually all of the effective methods of hair loss treatment, including Propecia, herbal suppliments, topical solutions (monoxidil etc), hair transplants, and more. A must buy for all those interested in knowing pretty much all there is to know about hair loss treatment options, their effectiveness, pros and cons, etc.

As a "recovering bald guy" who has survived and triumphed over baldness, I found "The Bald Truth" to be the Bible of hair restoration! Its approach is comprehensive and bluntly honest.

Having had my hair successfully restored by one of the world's finest hair transplant surgeons, Dr. Ron Shapiro, I found the author's critique of the state of hair transplantation to be excellent.

With todays advances, if a person chooses wisely, they have an excellent chance at restoring their hair. If they choose poorly, a person may spend a good deal of money with traumatic consequences.

I have read them all and this is by far the most fantastic objective guide for treating hair loss on the market to date. Trash the rest, Kobren wrote the best! This is a must read for anyone suffering with hair loss. He really tells it like it is and offers hope to all. Thank you Mr. Kobren.
