4.0 out of 5 stars I can haz ending plz?
I loved this game, but felt cheated of an ending. The gameplay is fun and, at least on the GameCube, quite intuitive. It was easy to set and use stock spells. The story was interesting, and steeped in the Forgotten Realms feel. Well done, guys.

But...where's my ending?! An RPG is a story. If the developers somehow missed this particular English class,...

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty good
this is one of the better PS2 games i've played.. the story, dialog and how you go into the sewer is cool. the action is enjoyable. the graphics are good. what i don't like is 1. aiming arrows is too difficult in my opinion, making it not as fun to play an archer and 2. it gets kinda repetitive.

If the developers somehow missed this particular English class, let me spell it out:at the most basic, a story must have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Um, guys? You missed one! Of course, it only gets worse later in the franchise. I'll explain that one at the end of the spoilers section to avoid killing it if you want to play the game.

[SPOILERS]

The game involves trying to destroy a tower and save Baldur's Gate. You fight your way up the tower, defeat the boss, and plunge through a portal in order to complete the destruction of the tower's foundations. Once though the portal you find...the credits. Go buy the second game.

This would not be as obnoxious if the game felt like it had some heft to it. I beat the game in about 10 hours, and that was with a lot of dinking around and dying. That's not an RPG. That's a short FPS. And now, you're telling me I don't get a full game? No ending? I call shenanigans and ripoffs.

Oh, yeah, and if you're buying this: the GameCube version is the best. Don't get too comfortable, though. 2 is only available on the PS2. (And, yes. It is a clunkier interface.)

Final word of warning: I liked this series. However, it is incomplete, and 2 ends on an even less complete note than 1. And, you guessed it, Black Isles never made 3. So...after 2 incomplete and super short games (though fun ones), you still don't get an ending.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good game with limited replay value, April 18, 2009

This review is from: Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance (Video Game)
The game itself is a good game, I enjoyed it very much. My husband and I like the games we can play together like this one. Unfortunately we played it all the way through in a weekend and once it was beaten we found it lacked replay value because you just go through the same quests over and over, no changes at all...and since the game can be beaten so quickly it gets very very boring. Also the character choices were limited, three types already named and created, you just get to pick which one of the three you want to be.

I Thought the game flowed very well from level to level. You were able to develop your character as well as buy things of help with your quest.

When I purchased this game it was suppose to be a Christmas gift. I received the game that is to be for a PS2. The cover said PS2, but when you open the game it was for a XBOX360. The game is useless for me and ruined my surprise.
