4.0 out of 5 stars Improvements and added tidbits are worth the revisit. November 20, 2013
EE Baldurs Gate continues to deliver on the improvements that are promised. Everyone knows these games, but its like having an overhaul of a sports car. It doesn't really go any faster, and all the improvements are under the hood and can't be easily seen. Graphical and interface improvements abound, and there are significant improvements with the flow of the game from SoA and ToB. The added dungeones and flush and fun, and while I haven't found all the new characters yet, the 2 I've found thus far are fun and enjoyable to play with.

The company that is making these games is hoping to use the proceeds to make Baldurs Gate 3. While theres the saying about a bird in the hand, the improvements are enough to justify an additional investment, and the tools for modding, to my understanding, are the same with some small improvements.

5.0 out of 5 stars Butt-Kicking for Goodness! November 25, 2013
By Zman17
I was initially a little hesitant about this game. The original is widely considered a classic of the genre, and one of my favorite games of all time. When the bar is set that high, it's kind of hard not to be disappointing. How much of my memory of this game is nostalgia and would it hold up when playing a dated game. I'm happy to report that after playing for about 5 hours yesterday, my fears were put to rest.

So let's be clear first, the graphics are very dated, but not in a way that detracts from the game. Sure you won't be able to see your character's facial expressions, but they still work well for the game.

The game play is where you get your monies worth, the same great game play and story from the original are still there. That means you better save often and have a strategy for each fight, because this game will punish you if you are not prepared. The enhancements are more around cleaning up the interface for the game, not changing the game play, which in my opinion was the right approach. There are some new characters but I have not used them yet.

At first glance, $25 seems a little high for an enhanced version of a 10+ year old game, but in my opinion it is still worth every penny.

I am writing a review having purchased the game through the Beamdog store. The work Beamdog has put into squashing bugs, polishing features, and adding new content is extraordinary.

I own multiple physical copies of the infinity engine games such as baldur's gate or planescape... Playing BGEE and BG2EE really has smoothed out the games experience, making it perhaps the finest release of eithergame to date. For anyone not wanting to spend time setting up / fighting MODs, this game is a simple installer/launcher and patched up ready to go with widescreen support, extra classes, fresh content, and practically zero bugs (on my play through).

The amount of Content and replay from both the base game, included expansion Throne of bhaal, and new areas and classes... there are no exaggeration hundreds of hours of enjoyment to dig into. This is a game you can revisit in the years to come with a different class, a different party makeup, different choices.

Now is a great time to finally see what everyone has been saying about Baldurs Gate and why you see it topping top 10 / 100s lists of games from all time.

Plus, let us not forget Boo. Boo awaits you!

5.0 out of 5 stars OH BOY!!!! May 15, 2014

I played this game back in the day and the one thing I hated was my computer was a bit too crappy to handle it.

Well, who's laughing now, buck-cheeks??? My lightning fast 'I'm 40 years old and can buy what I want' laptop can run any game smoothly, even that one with the thing that makes the screen freeze, so now I finally get to play this game fer realz. YES!!!!

So, now of course you all need to bear in mind this is not a modern video game with yer whodangles and protonpancake distributer softies. It's an older game that now runs flawlessly and has tons of AI and UI improvements plus easy transfer of characters from BG1. Plus it has all the expansions (cough, yeah they're small). The story is still fresh and funny, and I forgot a lot of it and didn't explore every side quest first go around.

For an older game there's a surprising amount of depth in character customization stat wise, and now it's hella easy to add your own custom portraits compared to the 90s when you were lucky to have a jpeg editor. The graphics? 90s to early 2000s, but mildly updated. Bugs? Yep. Still a few. And some quirky outdated mechanics, but that's how the game played back then. I'm glad they left it mostly intact as an experience.

Is it Assassin's Creed? YES!!!! Okay, no. It's point and click RT hack and slash with AD&D turn based rules with a pause button. AS IT SHOULD BE! I CARE NOT!

And it is still just as much fun to let Imoen die.

The Beginning... I mean EDN.

I love you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still in the top 5 of RPG's November 27, 2013
Verified Purchase
The fact that I still play it says a lot about the game, it set the standard for RPG's that while you do have quests that you must have to there are many quests you can do to get items and xp, the story line is great, your companions are not supermen or women, and to be honest the romances though sometimes bugged add realism to the game.
