5.0 out of 5 stars Please give my life back!!!, September 29, 2000
This review is from: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Collector's Edition (CD-ROM)
Eeeee. I bought BG2 on Friday, Sep 22. From that day to this, all I was doing is playing this game. I got a "zero" in one of my projects 'cause I was fighting evil monsters instead of doing the project. :) Cavaliers do not need C programming, right? To get back to the game, it is the best!!! The graphics, the story, the battle system, the environment, all too good to be true. Even the music and voice acting are intriguing. If you think there is no such thing as a perfect game, wait until you've played this game. (It does have a lot of memory leaks though). I recommend that you get the Versus guide book 'cause the number of quests in the game might overwhelm you; you need the book to know which one is optional and which one is required. Now, let me go finish that darn game so that I could get my normal life back. (Minsc and Boo! Rangers and hamsters everywhere. Rejoice!)

5.0 out of 5 stars What a role-playing game should be., August 27, 2000
This review is from: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Collector's Edition (CD-ROM)
If all you want to do is hack and slash through life (your character's life, that is) and wear out your mouse, go with other titles that can do that, and just that, well. However if you are a role-playing traditionalist who wants more then hack and slash, one who appreciates a deep non-linear story, one who wishes to lead an adventuring party and considers the consequences of one's decisions, Bauldur's Gate II is for you.

The great graphics doesn't hurt either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Baldurs Gate 2, March 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Collector's Edition (CD-ROM)
I have been an avid gamer for 20+ years and have never before experienced a computer product as detailed and engrossing as this. Its amazing to me that Black Isle/Interplay were able to not only incorporate all of the D+D rules, characters, classes, items etc. but they also gave us that D+D "feel" that those of us who have played pencil and paper style with d20s lying around know what im talking about. Even if your new to the genre i'd strongly recommend this product. And for all you vets out there this comes from one hardliner to another: GO BUY THIS GAME!

5.0 out of 5 stars Baldurs Gate 2; A must have for RPG fans, September 30, 2000
This review is from: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Collector's Edition (CD-ROM)
Anyone who has played any of interplay's role playing games, such as baldurs gate or icewind dale will love this game. This game allows you to continue your journey that ends in baldurs gate and continues in the land of amn. There are many new character portraits and many new races and classes. SOme of the new classes include sorcerers, monks, and barbarians. There is also a new half-orc class. THe games graphics are impeccable and the surrounding areas are finely detailed. Even the voices and crisp and clear. The animations and character responses surpass that of Baldur's Gate 1. Also, with the new addition to kits, your hero can choose his or her own special abilities. Kits are somewhat like sub-classes for your class. FOr example if you choose to be a fighter you have 3 choices as to what kind of fighter you want to be. One example is a fighter beserker. The quests in this game are also unsurmountable. All of the quests and journal entries are more organized, and the new AD&D rules allow for a bigger variety of gameplay such as dual wielding weapons. There are many new eapons in the game also. A an added bonus, if you buy the special addition, you get a bonus disc which adds a npc vendor to the game named Deidre. She can sell you rare items that cannot be found in the regular game itself.THe special edition also comes with promotional adds, 10 dollars of your purchase of icewind dale, and also trading cards of the character npcs and monsters. Overall, If you loved Baldur's GAte or like a game with a great story background, get this game. NOW

5.0 out of 5 stars The best RPG Ever!, March 17, 2001

This review is from: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Collector's Edition (CD-ROM)
This game is by far the best so far. Icewind Dale was a little weak on the storyline, and Baldur's Gate (even though it was a blast to play as well) just had to many little annoying things. This game is a one I could play over and over again without getting bored. The character creation is great, the story line is even better, and the new graphics are awesome! I bought the Collector's Edition because the extra items are a definate perk. I suggest to anyone who plays RPG's and likes them to buy this game as soon as possible, you won't regret it! It's as close to perfect as you'll get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can You Say Perfect?, October 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Collector's Edition (CD-ROM)
Black Isle has expertly combines Story, Graphics, Gameplay, Sound, and Action in this game. Taking almost directly off from where Baldur's Gate, the game which brought the RPG genre back from the dead. The storyline is by the same people who did the Planescape Torment story, and unless you've been living under a rock for hundreds of years, Planescape Torment's story is one of the bests ever. It has the story equal to Planescape, action of Icewind Dale, and the gameplay and intrigue of Baldur's Gate except it perfects every aspect. Imagine Almost Endless Replay Value, Tons of different endings, hundereds of sub-quest, involving story, great gameplay, relentless action, 250 hours minimum of gameplay, and just PS:T, Icewind Dale, Fallout 1&2, Baldur's Gate rolled into one perfect game. Ahh... a Word of warning, don't buy it if you live under a rock or if you don't like playing long games because of 250 hours of gameplay plus endless replay equals a deadly combo. Even a RPG hater or Computer game hater or Console game lover will love this game. Trust me. *o*

5.0 out of 5 stars Near perfection, February 10, 2001
This review is from: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Collector's Edition (CD-ROM)
BG2, as soon as i heard of it, had my interest. I played BG1 avidly, as well as Icewind Dale. I was totally expecting my high epectations to be completly dissapointed. From the second i installed the game, i knew my expectations had been completly surpassed. I had a small hard drive, and i had alot of problems due to it, but if you can install the full game (like i did after i bought a 30 gig hard drive, just so i could play the game better), then you will have bascially no problems with it, and load times wont be bad at all. The game itself is just completly huge. There are so many areas, and in every area there is so much stuff and attention to detail packed into it that it would be near impossible to know everything about this game. The game treats veterans of this genere well, as well as slipping in tips during the load screens to help the newbies. The game is absolutly spectacular, and i was apalled when i found that it did not recieve game of the year in PC Gamer. But anyway, to anybody who has had even the mildest of interest in fantasy at all, pick up this game and be prepared from the time you get home from work/school untill way past the time you should be asleep, like i do.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHEN cRPGs TOUCHED THE SKY..., March 24, 2008

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Collector's Edition (CD-ROM)
This was the LONGEST the MOST FUN game I have ever played! And, mind you, I am not an easy customer (feel free to browse through my reviews, you will see what I mean...)

The original BG series was excellent in all of storyline, gameplay, music and stability. Now, nowadays, sequels usually mean a graphically-improved expansion (at best). BG2 is a rare exception of the sequel clearly SURPASSING the original. And in the case of such great original, this means a lot!

Words fail to describe the perfect harmony of brilliant ideas, interweaved story-lines and detailed coding that makes this game an unsurpassable classic! Do not let the slightly outdated graphics discourage you. They were cutting edge only some years ago - and you will be able to unleash their full potential even on mid-range PCs!

I have yet to meet anyone who has played it and not raved about it! Hard-core D&D funs will find the character building, fighting checks and balances and overall experience very close to the actual pen-&-paper games.
Casual computer gamers will notice none of the tedious stuff of other cRPGs as the gameplay runs smooth and beautifully.
You even have the choice to turn it into either a turn-based or an action game by tweaking the auto-pause options! I am telling you: this is how computers games should be!

You will let yourself get lost in the deep dungeons of the labyrinthic story; you will be laughing out loud to the humorous dialog; you will be surprised as to who is a double and triple-agent.
There is an evil beyond imagining unleashed and only you with your party can stand in its way.
Party members offer a multitude of unpredictable balancing points and diverging story-lines of their own: side quests, conflicts and love affairs enrich the story in so many original ways!

An unsurpassed classic!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, October 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Collector's Edition (CD-ROM)
I really love this game. It is very addicting. However, with my older PC I do get a few problems. The game says "reccomend speed is 266mhz". When you get inside it is 400mhz something. That didnt stop me though, I kept playing though it was rather jumpy. I have another problem, that was my older PC blew out its CD-ROM drive, so I am tortured waiting for a new one. Good game however, I hihgly reccomend it.

I loved BG1, thought Planescape was a pretty cool game (didn't like Icewind....too much hank'n'slash, too little RPG, but thats just me) But this game has blowin' them out of the water. in the first 48hr I owned it I bet I got 6hr of sleep, if, and burned a couple sick days from work =). If role play's your bag you need this game. Laterz
