For any one who appreciates Martial Arts or knives in general. Jeff Imada's 1st book 'The Balisong Manual' gave you a guide into the art of Balisong Knife history, care and treatment, Balisong and the Law, carrying, knife safety, the grip, striking areas, manipulating the Balisong (holds, defense/offesive use, opening and closing flips) and self defense. For those that have seen them in action, it's akin to watching Bruce Lee with nunchaku. Jeff Imada second book 'The Advanced Balisong manual' goes onto more detail than his 1st book. More advanced and usually more impressive open and closing flips including detailed action photographs, pocket knife openings, more manipulations grip-changes self-defense and holds, as well as referbishing the Balisong and belt sheaths. Some people think a knife is a knife is a knife... not so, some knives have function others usability and others beauty. Jeff Imada has included a catalog of Balisong knives in this manual which cover all these. Also note that Balisong knives are illegal in many states and countries. Why I don't understand... many knives available today are more dangerous... and in my opinion boring. When was the last time you 'Really' played with a knife? You either take it out look at it, show your friends the craftsmanship, then put it away, or you relive your John Wayne dreams for a fast draw and open you blade as fast as you can. Yeeehaaa!

Everything you wanted to know and more about the Balisong knife is presented here from knife care, manipulations( to swing blade in and out), self defense and combat tactics just to name a few. Imada really knows how to weild this weapon and a wealth of knowledge and many hours of practise is presented to you. A must for any knife fighter!!!

I found this book to be an excellent guide for care and basic techniques for opening the Balisong(Butterfly) knife. If you are truly a Balisong beginner, this book should prove useful to you. If, however, you already know the basic opening procedures, you should probably opt for the Advanced Balisong Manual

Jeff Imada is THE source for butterfly knife technqiues. It's got a great assortment of excercises, openings, closings, and everything else you need to become proficient at the balisong. Although learning this kind of material is diffiuclt from a printed page (better to have video) this book does a good job in getting it's point across. It's a great reference tool.

This book has a great assortment of tricks - openings - closings plus great info on how to practice complete with pretty good step by step illustrations. This kind of subject matter is difficult to relate in books but this one doe a pretty good job. It's the best book out on the balisong.

I have just found out that I made the right purchase. The Balisong Manual is great for getting started in the art of the Balisong. Unlike some other Balisong book courses, this title is very complete and dosen't hold back. The pictures and discriptions make alot of sense and are easy to follow. Thouroughly recommended, I believe there is a follow up course for advanced students. I know that I will be ordering that soon also.

One of the better books I've read on balisong openings and use,very well written and easy to understand. His second book deserves a look as well.

I was still in High School, when I read this book in the aisles of a small martial arts store called the Green Dragon in Charleston, SC. Having read the book again, it brings back fond memories of my martial arts training. Back then, a decent Balisong, or Butterfly Knife, was $25. Every kid wanted a Pacific Cutlery Balisong but in those days $250 was hard to come by. It still is.

Covering the advanced techniques of flipping, opening, closing and tossing a Balisong with the emphasis on safety, this book takes training to the level of being there with the master. I still recall my friends who learned the martial arts from Self Help martial arts books, as Bruce Lee had written them in the early 70s. It was the time of the first and original Ralph Macchio, as the Karate Kid.

Attacks and defensive drills in the closed and open modes of carrying are illustrated in black and white sequential photos.

The added bonus is the history and laws of the Balisong knife from the 80s, as well as a buyer's guide of every knife available in the Balisong design.

This book is a classic. It is how we as youngsters learned the ways of flipping. Long, long before the likes of YouTube or even the Internet.

The book was great for my husband who has had a balisong for a few years and made some progress but wanted detailed explanations. he had great fun going through it and is now looking very good.
