4.0 out of 5 stars You have to put them in the refrigerator.... July 20, 2011
By Peeper
As weird as this sounds, you have to put the labels in the refrigerator. Like the other review, I bought these and got them home and I was like, "Wow these things are horrible." All of the sticky stuff that was stuck to the backing of the labels was stuck to the sheet and when you peeled the label off you got NADA sticky on the back of the label. I had planned on taking them back to where I bought them and just hadn't had time to do so yet! Well, when I was canning the other day I had a spark of ingenuity! I thought, "Wonder if putting them in the refrigerator would set the sticky and keep it on the back of my label where it is supposed to be?" Well, sure enough I put them in the refrigerator for a while and then checked a few labels....all of the sticky stayed where it was supposed to be. I tried taking them out to right on them...NOPE...same result as before! You have to keep them in the refrigerator constantly and can only take a label out as you need it! Also, you just take the label off the strip and put it on your jar. If you take the whole role out to try and write on one label they all go back to worthless...SOOOOOOO, it is rather irritating having to do all that to get the label...BUT I had payed for them and didn't wanna have wasted money. So they do work....they just have to be kept in the fridge!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was hoping for - UPDATED July 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I was nervous ordering these after reading the other review. But after the seemingly endless scraping necessary to remove the regular labels from jars, (and still leaving sticky, unsightly adhesive residue behind) this was a really appealing concept. So, I took a chance and ordered them.

I did not have the problems the other reviewer had - my labels separated easily from the roll and adhered nicely to the canning jars. (I did make sure that my jars were completely dry and at room temperature before I applied the labels.) I have not had the labels long enough to assess whether they will remain stuck for the long term, but after a couple of weeks they are still firmly attached. I have not yet needed to wash a jar that has a full label on it. However, there was a half-label at the beginning of the label roll. As a test, I stuck this half-label on a glass before putting it in the dishwasher. After the dishwasher was finished, there was no trace of the label on the glass or elsewhere in the dishwasher - it seems to have dissolved as advertised.

The labels are a little absorbent, so if you are using a felt-tipped marker to write on the labels, the ink will "bleed" slightly. This is a slight cosmetic problem; the bleeding is not bad enough to affect legibility. You can write on the labels with pencil or ballpoint pen to avoid the bleeding problem.

If I discover any additional problem with these labels in the future, I will update my review. But so far I am very pleased and intend to keep ordering them.

UPDATE: The labels are still sticking just fine. I have now used and washed some of the jars I used these on. The labels have always come off completely in the dishwasher without leaving any gunk behind. There have been more negative reviews posted since I wrote my original review, so maybe quality control is erratic? But given the great results I've had with mine, I'll risk it and order some more when I run low on these.

A couple of things to note: I don't store my unused labels in the kitchen. I keep them in a closet elsewhere in the house, so they aren't exposed to the day-to-day heat and humidity of the kitchen. I only bring them into the kitchen when I am ready to use them. Also, I don't put the labels on my jars until they've cooled overnight. By this time, all the heat and humidity from the prior day's canning session has cleared out of the kitchen. If I can more than one day in a row, I label and put away the previous day's jars first thing in the morning - because I need the counter space! So again, my labels are not spending time in a hot and humid kitchen. I wonder if that's why I'm not having the problems other people are having. It makes sense that a dissolvable label would perform badly in a hot and humid kitchen.

4.0 out of 5 stars What was I thinking? January 10, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased these labels for my lacto-ferments, such as sodas, kombucha veggies,etc... not thinking about them being kept in the fridge. The labels work great, but for one problem. When you take the item out of the fridge, and it starts to warm up, the label starts to disolve from the condensation on the container. NOT good, especially if you are giving the item as a gift.
However, if you are using these labels for dry storage, they work perfectly. So the problem was with the user, not the labels them selves. LOL

I would recommend these labels. Just make sure you keep them VERY dry!!

the labels look flimsy and cheap and the design is a light grey that only adds to the first two things I said.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too small
I must have misjudged the size from the photo, but there's not a lot of room on these labels for more than 2 or 3 words written small. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Labels which do NOT Work!
These labels do not work; peeling the label off the backing tape for use, leaves the adhesive still on the backing tape and not on the label. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
i use reusable lids for my canning, so I don't like to write on them. These labels are great. They stick well, but come right off later when you wash the jar.

These labels work great, and adhere in an oval area of the Ball jars. I like how they come right off when washed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dissolvable is the key
I hate other labels that say they are easy to remove and then you have to pick and scratch them off. They arrived on time and as promise.
