However, Amazon is charging WAY too much for these! I found mine at my local Ace Hardware for $9.99 per set of six. Not sure why Amazon's price is so much higher when they're usually cheaper than everyone else. Maybe the packaging needed to keep them intact for shipping?
If you're interested in these great jars, I do recommend going to Ace though, purely for the price difference.
The blue is almost exactly 'dawn dish soap' blue. Brighter than pictured, but amazing in person!
To the person who complained that the jars were smaller than anticipated... a pint is a pint is a pint. What did you expect???
These are much, much nicer ... These are perfect molds as they do not have uneven bottoms and will not wobble when set down .... The color is consistant throughout and of a much nicer shade than the original washed out vintage blue .... This color is a darker shade aqua, but not so dark that you can't see the contents of the jar ....
The Ball company logo is a perfect raised mold on one side, with raised measurement values on two opposite sides .... These raised markings provide a good 'grip' when used as a drinking glass .... They have a nice smooth lip, wide mouth, and perfect threading for a standard mason jar lid .....
Kind of overkill for actual canning use, but you will have the nicest looking pantry on the block if you go that route ... And it goes without saying that these will make a much nicer package for gift giving than the clear off-the-shelf jars ...
These are already packaged to resist handling breakage by Ball ..... But Amazon did a pretty good job of packaging for shipping as well, but I didn't get the multiple layers of bubble wrap as others have mentioned .... Still nothing was broken ....
Again; looking for a cheap, sturdy, break-resistant, pet tolerant drinking glass? .... Something that will not easily get knocked over while sitting unattended on the end table? ..... Then this is what you want .... You will not be disappointed ..... Get them before they are discontinued and require you to wait for the next 100 year anniversary .....
I mainly use the pint-sized ones for homemade salad dressings and storing golden tumeric paste for my dogs. These seal nice and tight, so that dressings can be given a shake without leaking. The purple color is very pretty and is also a protective color for some types of foods that do not do well exposed to light.
The green quart sized ones I am using for chopped, layered salads. These can also be used to store dried foods like chilies or pasta. If you have a hive, these are great to store raw honey in. I think they would look really cool as a pickling jar. These are also a lovely color and wash easily. I am not sure if these quart sized jars are considered wide mouth. The opening is fairly wide and the lids fit my wide mouth pint jars.
I have included a picture of the quart sized green jars and a pint-sized purple jar side by side so you can make a comparison and decide which one fits your needs. Many people use the half pint for salad dressings, but I find the pint-size works for me. These jars are also a very pretty way to offer a food gift to a friend.
