Great job! The information was well organized, the pics were gorgeous. The choice of language was good, informative without being patronizing, which is something that usually drives me right up the wall with how to books.

The list of links was very thorough, and I liked the idea of the dictionary for commonly used terms and abbreviations. Too often, we veteran doll collectors seem to forget that n00bs (that's a new one to me, by the way) don't instantly understand all these things when we post messages in groups, on boards, or forums.

Don't let the "for beginners" in the title put you off. While the book is certainly good introduction for new collectors, it also has a lot to offer those of us who already have the doll(s) of our dreams. It's a plum pudding of tips and clear instructions on the buying, care and maintenance of ball jointed dolls. Besides being a useful reference tool, it's fun to read, definitely a keeper. I'm so glad I bought it.

I just ordered and received this book and spent a good two hours perusing it. Having been in "The Hobby" for almost five years now, I could hardly be considered a beginner, but I LOVED this book! If you collect Asian BJDs you know that there are very few books about them available, so the minute I found this book I ordered it hoping it would be worth the price. It is! It is a big, wonderful, full-color publication with lots of photographs of lovely Peak's Wood dolls (one of the few brands I don't own...hmmmmm...might have to change that). When I stumbled onto Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls I knew literally nothing about them, and this is the book I wish I had had back then! It gives clear, well-written descriptions of how to do all the important stuff that is so scary when you first get one of these naked, bald, eyeless dolls, including installing eyes and the thing that wigs newbies out the most- the dreaded RE-STRINGING! (actually not that hard, especially with this book nearby as a resource). The photos the author uses to illustrate her how-to-do section are excellent and would be extremely helpful for not only the new doll owner, but also for picking up hints and suggestions you may not have thought of. It also includes a handy guide to BJD Forum Etiquette, since much of the life of BJDs takes place in international online web forums. It is a great resource for doll companies, accessories, etc. AND if even includes a couple of free patterns.
If you are a newbie to BJDs this book is a MUST for you! If you have been around for a few years, you will still enjoy reading the fun and entertaining text and looking at the gorgeous dolls. And if you have a friend or relative who collects these dolls, I can guarantee she or he would live to find it wrapped up under the Christmas tree!

I was looking for an introduction to the hobby, and this is a fabulous one. She addresses how to find that first doll, where to find it, and ways to avoid newbie mistakes. She also covers basic maintenance and adjustment techniques that the new owner will need. I love this book!

I've been collecting Pullip dolls for years now. I have recently wanted to collect some of the more realistic BJDs. (Ball jointed dolls) This book is a MUST have for someone such as myself. I didn't know where to look and Alison said, "give me your hand you lost little soul... I will find you the perfect doll." She lists all manner of sites to look at, tells you how to care for your doll, all the lingo that is important to know and also how to not get caught up in a scam. After all, these are pretty pricey little works of art and where there is money to be stolen, there will be people gross enough to do it. The pictures in the book are fabulous. The only problem with this book is that now I'm more addicted than ever.

This is such a well-organized and well-written book. I love the tone of the writing, and the photos are beautiful - even the tutorial photos! I've already referred to the list of BJD companies, online resources and abbreviations since I got it. The index is also a great addition for finding stuff in the book. I love that there is an online component on Fashion Doll Review for some additional info. My favorite part is the "Doll Emergencies" section (pp.129-130)- that alone is well worth the cost of the whole book!

My daughters and I found this book to be well written and organized to help clarify the purchasing of BJD's. It also contains wonderful information on the care and other things associated with these dolls. I would recommend this book for beginning collectors or anyone interested in learning more about this type of doll.
