Editorial Reviews

"Part Iowa Baseball Confederacy, part One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, and part sci-fi mind-fry, Jeff Polman's BALL NUTS is an endearingly loopy and thoroughly entertaining tale that takes the concept of fantasy baseball to an entirely new level."-- Dan Epstein, author of Big Hair and Plastic Grass: A Funky Ride Through Baseball and America in the Swinging '70s.

"Jeff Polman's done it again. In BALL NUTS he's got the time machine funked up with shag carpeting, Naugahyde, and an 8-track tape player, and we're headed down to watch the Afro'd ballplayers in their ugly uniforms dish it out on turf. One of my favorite decades meets one of my favorite writers, and that's a combo that can't be beat."--Peter J. Schilling, author of The End of Baseball

"A novel of exuberant madness that re-imagines the 1977 baseball season as a magnet for a memorable gallery of souls unstuck in time, Jeff Polman's BALL NUTS provides a fresh, engaging meditation on the absurd and magnificent landscape of 1970s baseball, from Aase to Zeber and everything in between."--Josh Wilker, author of Cardboard Gods

"Polman transports us into a mind-bending baseball journey where time, space and sanity bend, as if in a Salvador Dali painting. If you like baseball fiction or the 1970s, BALL NUTS is in your wheelhouse. If you like the Strat-O-Matic board game, it's a grand slam home run!"--Scott Simkus, author of Outsider Baseball, The Weird World of Hardball on the Fringe

"BALL NUTS is exactly that--chock full of...well...nuts.  C. Buzz Gip and his gang of misfits is to baseball and time travel what R.P. McMurphy was to basketball and fishing boats." --Mike Lynch, Seamheads.com

What a Great and Funny Read on The 1977 Baseball Season. Wonderful Idea to use the Real Stratomatic Baseball Board Game as a Way to Take Baseball Fans on a Mystic Replay of the 77 Season. Just Loved The Book as Any True Strat Player Would. Gotta go Roll The Dice Now for Myself! Thanks Jeff.

Get into the Way-Back Machine & travel back to funk-a-delic 1977! This fictional baseball replay novel is filled with great characters & baseball nuts tht replicate the actual baseball zealots tht still cherish the game today. This is 1977 Strat-O-Matic style baseball where all things vintage come from! Astroturf, cookie cutter ballpark's, big hair , crazy uniforms, no innings pitched limit (see Stephen Strasburg) & other old ballpark's tht resemble churches with make believe steeples tht point us towards baseball's rich past & would in 15 yrs be the rubble tht leads to a wave of throw-back style ballpark's tht look nothing like cookie cutters At all! While reading this romp thru '77 via Timeco Incorporated & the narration by the reliable Buzz Gip I'm reminded of the movie The Dream Team & their trip to a Yankees game! Great film & I put this baseball Mad Odyssey thru 1977 right up there with tht crazy movie! The great thing abt Ball Nuts is not only do you get to read the box score summaries but Strat addict & author Jeff Polman takes us thru all kinds of other side stories tht entertain us & always bring us back to the driving Forsch... I mean Force of this fantastic story, which the complete enjoyment of baseball at its finest! Thank you Jeff for this highly entertaining enjoyable read, tht inspires me to new heights of creativity in my own Strato universe!
