This is one of those rare products that is very cheap and yet well-made. I like to make fresh juice for drinking later. Since juice doesn't stay fresh long, you want to seal it really well, preferably in a canning jar with an airtight lid. Since canning jars are rather heavy to carry around, I tried these. Heck, for pocket change, I'll try anything.

They're perfect! While the little lid looks flimsy, it actually provides such a solid seal that I can bounce it around in my purse and it does not leak. What's more, my homemade juice tastes like new when I crack it open, better than a glass jar. They are made from durable #5 plastic, which is one of the re-usable types least likely to leach bad stuff into your beverage. After I drink my juice, I seal them back up so they don't dry up and that makes it a breeze to clean it when I get home by just running a quick sponge over it. I've used them for juice, salad dressing, yogurt, sauces... nothing has stained the plastic yet. I haven't tried them in a microwave or dishwasher; I don't know if I would because I'd hate for the lid to warp.

I love these jars for homemade baby food. I make big batches of food, pour it into these jars and pop em in the freezer. They stack and lock onto each other. I love the lids, they twist on. I wish they had them in 4 oz size. I just leave em in the fridge to defrost and use them 2 days in a row for feedings.

These are BPA free, in case anyone was wondering. I looked on the Ball website before ordering, and it also confirmed it on the packaging. They should mention this in the description!

Anyway, I use these for just about everything. I bought a 30 pack, and just came back for more! I do a lot in bulk, and freeze small portions of pizza sauce, soup, etc. My recent discovery of homemade yogurt has been my biggest excitement for these little jars!

My kids love, LOVE fruit on the bottom yogurt. I hate all the sugar added. I started making my own yogurt, using my crockpot (just google crockpot homemade yogurt, it is super-easy!) and fresh or frozen fruit on the bottom, and the kids get SOOOO excited picking out their own individual container. They are easy enough for my kindergartener to remove the lid at lunch, but the seal is solid. Did I mention I am saving a small fortune on these individual yogurts, now that I can reuse these containers?

Back to these little containers though. The ones I already have are going strong after over a year of use. No leaking, stack perfectly, and they clean up beautifully in the dishwasher. For plastic, they are durable! I did break one when I dropped it on concrete while it had frozen soup, but that is the only one that has been damaged. These are a great value! I highly recommend them, and may be back for more if I find that 60 is not enough. : )

UPDATE: These containers are still going strong, years later!

UPDATE (12/12/12)
=============================

I am slightly obsessed with screw-top food storage containers and recently purchased another comparable container, Glad LockWare. Of the 4 I have used, Glad is my new favorite, and the available sizes are just what I'm looking for. My new ranking:

1. Glad LockWare (Glad Lockware Bags, Small, 3 Count (Pack of 3))
2. Ziploc Twist 'N Loc (Ziploc Twist 'N Loc Containers, Small 2 Cup, 3 Containers & 3 Lids (Pack of 2))
3. Rubbermaid TakeAlong Twist and Seal (Rubbermaid TakeAlongs 1-Cup Twist and Seal Containers, Pack of 4)
4. Ball Plastic Freezer Containers

Glad is very similar to Ziploc but made of slightly thicker (sturdier) material, and it stacks better because of the raised circle on the lid. Plus, unlike Ziploc, there is an Extra Small size. Freezer, dishwasher, and microwave safe. BPA-free #5 polypropylene plastic.

So far, all my containers have withstood dishwasher washing and freezing very well with no breakage...except for Rubbermaid. I've had a casualty in the dishwasher - I found one completely cracked. Rubbermaid may not be the sturdiest. Thankfully I've found a comparable replacement size with Glad.

As for leakage, reviewers of all brands seem to have had different experiences. I have not had any leakage issues with any brand, but I normally use these in the freezer and not for travel.

If you have ever stored breastmilk or baby food in the Avent or Mebby storage cups you'll think these freezer canning containers look a little familiar. I own all three types of storage cups/containers and I'm positive that all three are made by the same factory. The lids are interchangeable too so if you happen to catch one of the three on sale or clearance somewhere and tempted to buy them but you are unsure of whether the lids will fit your containers at home- just know that they will! And if you want some color variety in you life you can pick up a pack of each. Also, there is one other canning company that offers these same containers but with a purple lid- I think it's Kerr but don't quote me on that. The purple lids also fit these containers. When my freezer is full I have a bunch of these containers snapped stacked on top of each other and you'd never know they were from different companies with different intended uses. P.S. in case you are wondering- Mebby has orange slightly translucent tops with four feet on the lids that can double as a stand when snapped to the bottom of the containers, Avent lids are slightly translucent blue, and the green and purple lids are completely opaque but all of them allow you to snap the lid on the bottom of the container for easy storage or so that you can effectively lock several full containers together stacked in the freezer.
