We made a batch of fresh strawberry freezer jam in a matter of minutes! The participants were very proud of themselves for being able to do this job themselves.
A week later, we tried the jam with croissants baked in the oven. You could have heard a pin drop in the room because they were enjoying the taste so much! Needless to say, they went through 3 jars of freezer jam, leaving the Smuckers on their plates for the garbage! (I put the latter on their plates for a taste comparison!)
I highly recommend this product for people who would like to try their hand at making jam who thought it was hard and for those who want a real taste treat of eating fresh fruit jam. Even conventionally prepared jam doesn't taste nearly as fresh.
*Note: We used half the sugar of the recipe on the pectin jar because our class is a healthy cooking class; we strive to use less of the "bad for you" ingredients. The jam tasted great without it, but we used fresh strawberries from a local farm that were quite sweet already.
I have found that you get about 3 1/2 full batches of jam per flat for raspberries/blackberries and about 6 batches per flat for strawberries.
Also, I would recommend the Ball Freezer Jam containers. They aren't glass, don't have to be sterilized for freezer jam, and stack so well for storage for our next yearly jam party.
I'm not happy that they changed the packaging, because they also changed the recipe completely. They not only give a recipe for an even smaller batch, but I'm having a really hard time getting it to set now. It's always runny now. I NEVER had that problem before!! ;-( And.... NOW I have to order online all the time, instead of buying it in the store, cause of this new "flex batch" nonsense. Everything has become much more inconvenient & much more unreliable. Have been looking for replacements.
Still, I do love the idea of freezer, no-cook jam over cooked jam. It's faster, easier AND healthier.
But Ball: you messed up!!
The Clearance sticker should have been my first clue. I spent some time prepping my blueberries and jars. I followed the instructions perfectly and the jam did not set. What I got was the same as mixing blueberries and sugar together. I will use it to mix with yogurt so I won't throw it away.
It appears that this stuff has been sitting around for a while and isn't any good. EIther way, I was surprised Amazon even allowed it to be sold at this price with a big Clearance sticker saying the price was $1.48. I am not going to bother to return it since I already opened it.
Buyer beware. The upload photo option is no longer available or I would have uploaded a photo showing the red clearance sticker.
summer. The freezer jams taste just like you picked the fruit that morning.
I like it so well that I don't bother with the cooked kind anymore.
It is fast and so easy.
Service is fast. I will buy more. Try it you will really like the ease of making
fresh jam. Strawberry is my favorite. I could eat it right out of the jar it is so good.
Try some on vanilla ice cream.

I'm sure this is a fine product, but it is not good for making non-fat yogurt due to the citric acid content. I have had great success using unflavored gelatin (bulk).Published 1 month ago by RC
Great add on price! I make the BEST strawberry jam in 30 minutes! Beats all store bought because I use organic berries. Very economical.Published 7 months ago by Frequent shopper
