I bought this product from Amazon and received the product practically overnight. Unfortunately, the Jar Lifter had a manufacturing defect that caused the soft coating to slough off after the first use in boiling water. I notified the seller who had Amazon immediately send a replacement at no charge. Unfortunately, the replacement exhibited the same manufacturing defect. It was obvious when the product arrived, before any use at all. My conclusion - don't buy this jar lifter from Amazon until after they clear out all the defective merchandise from their warehouse. Fortunately for me, the seller bent over backward to make it right and they did it so quickly it left my head spinning! I have worked with a lot of Amazon and eBay sellers but by far, this seller is the BEST I have encountered!!!

I bought this set because it seemed like a cheap way to get the essentials for canning -- indeed the set was cheaper than some jar lifters by themselves. Unfortunately, it seems, you (don't) get what you (don't) pay for here. After just two uses in two weeks, the plastic bits around the jar lifter popped off and won't go back on. The other plastic utensils are clearly cheaply made of cheap plastic. I would recommend spending an extra dollar or two and buying tools that will last for longer than it takes to ship them to you.

This kit is great for people who are just starting to can foods. I did not have any problems with the magnet being too weak... actually it was almost too strong. It would be about impossible to drop a jar when you hold them with the jar lifter. The funnel didn't melt when I used it, but I didn't run boiling water through it either. The bubble popper/headspace tool is very useful for knowing how much liquid to put into the jar, it has markings 1/4 in, 1/2 in, 3/4 in, 1 inch. I didn't need to pop bubbles with it though. My pickle making adventure was successful!

I'm still fairly new to canning stuff. But when I first started it I thought "heck why do I need these things" trust me...it makes life so much easier! There is a wide mouth funnel which is so nice because they you don't spill the hot jam (or whatever you're making) all over the place and then have to wipe hot jam while you are trying to do everything else. There is a magnet on the end of the stick to help get the jar lids out of the hot water (sooooo much easier then using two forks)...and a jar gripper which is a lot easier to use. I didn't worry if I was going to drop anything I knew it was gripped tightly. So easy to use - good quality and affordable. You don't have to spend a lot of money for it! I got ours at Walmart for 6.40! You can't go wrong!!!

No matter what color it would have or could have been, this is an absolute MUST have item for canning whether you're just starting out or an experienced canning queen/king, grab yourself a set! I've used these once a week for 3 weeks, no problems so far.

Nice kit to start with. Everything in the kit works great, which is why I gave this 5 stars. I have had it now for at least 7 years and nothing has broken and it all still works fine.

The magnetic lid lifter could be a bit longer so you don't wind up burning your fingers trying to lift the lids out of the pot of hot water, but I just used the tongs to hold it while grabbing the lids if the water is a bit deeper than normal. The lids aren't heavy so it's no big deal.

The tongs grab the hot jars up and out of the pots very easily, and the funnel makes filling the jars so simple. Works great, have even used the funnel to fill thermoses up with hot soup.

The bubble remover/headspace measuring tool also does what it is supposed to do. I haven't had any problems with this kit. The only thing that is looking shabby is the box they came in that I still store all the pieces in when not in use. I've never used any of the other canning kits so I can't compare the quality and usefulness of this kit with another. I just know that I have had this kit for years, everything that I received is still in great shape, and for me this works perfect.

I use these tool several time a week and have only good things to say about them.
If I were designing a tool set for canning and pickling I would rethink the jar grabber.
I would prefer a set of log tongs with non-slippery rubber to allow me to reach deep into my water bath with a tool that will grip a wet jar.

As a beginning canner, this utensil set has worked perfectly for me through my first two experiences with canning.

The funnel fit perfectly into the normal mouth pint jars that we were filling with tomato sauce. The fit was snug and allowed me to easily fill the jars. Only inconvenience was that I needed to lift out the funnel in order to shrink down the headspace to the desired amount (1/2 inch). I don't think there's much that could be done about this other than making the bottom of the funnel shorter which would surely impact the sturdiness inside the jar.

The lifter was very sturdy and allowed me to get a very solid grip on the cans when I was putting them into and removing them from the hot water.

Lid lifter is pretty basic but does exactly what it says it does. The magnet sticks well to the lids when retrieving them and moving them to the mouth of the jars.

Headspace tool works well, and it's easy to put the notch on the mouth of the jar to test the headspace. I'm curious if it would work better as a bubble remover if it had a bit more flex to it to sweep along the sides of the jar. However, I haven't noticed any issues with getting rid of bubbles, so maybe it doesn't need improvement.

All-in-all, the set works great, and I've had no major issues putting it to use as I gain more experience with canning.
