Those who are fascinated by the talent of Billy Childish (who is the man behind this girl garage rock group) would enjoy this album like any other releases by him (e.g. Thee Headcoats). As always, Thee Headcoatees successfully create the real feeling of enjoyable old garage sound. Their seemingly flat (I mean it as a compliment, so please don't misunderstand) vocal goes quite well with distorted guitar sound which is typical of this kind of music. I especially like the title song "Ballad of the Insolent Pup" which Kyra LaRubia takes lead vocal. I bet all the funs of indie-garage rock would surely love this album.

However, if there are those who have listened to Thee Headcoatees and expect them to do something noble in their other releases, they might end up being disappointed. Because what you can get from this album is a sheer fun of garage sound. There is always some "goody" because it never changes. It is as simple as that. So grab this album if you know the excitement of garage sound.

Great album! Probably the best record by this Billy Childish-inspired all-gal quartet. On the title track, the girls make their femme fatale S&M subtext a little more plain (the boys really dig that stuff...) and go on to snarl their way through many a song on the foolishness of love and attraction. That's all very well and fine, but what really makes this album special are the slashing, relentless guitars and heavy, heavy backbeats. It's a big, bold Billy Childish wall of sound that takes no prisoners and was made to be played LOUD. And with the crisp, clean production, you can do just that... with proper use, your neighbors will hate you for buying this record. (See also: Holly Golightly.)
