In the darkness stands a girl draped in pure white. Don’t let her innocent appearance fool you; her hands grip a glistening scythe. Momo is the dark messenger of death tasked with releasing humans from their mortal bonds and delivering their souls to the great beyond. First encounters with Momo always end in farewells.

This review is from: Ballad of a Shinigami, Vol. 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
I've just begun to read "light novels" and my first foray was into the Boogiepop series which I highly recommend.
I've only read the first book in this series but it seems to be a collection of stories about death/life/loss that focuses mostly on minor characters who only appear in their chapter. The main character Momo the Shinigami (grim reaper-ish) barely gets any screen time and mostly appears in a deus ex-machina sort of way.
The stories to me though just weren't that interesting. Not terrible, and I did enjoy the writing style, but at the end of each one I was just kinda like "meh." Perhaps as the series progresses more of an overall story arc may appear and things might pick up. I for one will probably switch to another series first.
