4.0 out of 5 stars Ballads, December 15, 1999
By
This review is from: Ballads (Audio CD)
REO, for better or worse, were one of the inventors of the power ballad. As nauseating and overbearing as this form of music became by the early 90's, a good power ballad almost seems like a breath of fresh air a decade later. But good power ballads are hard to find. Well, look no further. Although this band was capable of some great, straight-ahead rock (Don't let him go, Follow my heart) they seemed to have a knack at crafting catchy, soaring ballads. "Time for me to fly", "Keep on loving you", and "Can't fight this feeling" are timeless classics. Other highlights: the pretty melody of "After Tonight", "One Lonely Night", and "Just for you", a great new track. On the negative, the corny "Building the Bridge" and "Till the River Runs Dry" are below REO standards. And since 10 million people already own Hi Infidelity, I would have replaced "I wish you were there" (the weakest song on Hi-Inf) with "Blazing your own trail again" or even a song like "Sweet Time". All in all, another fine best-of from REO.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The ballads" a must have for any REO fan!, August 12, 1999

Well I have to admit that I would rather had a cd with all new material,This compilation record is just fabulous. The first song "Just for you" is a power ballad like only REO can do.These guys are known for their rockin' live shows, but their big hits seem to be the slower ones. And they are all represented here. There is also some great liner notes written by Kevin Cronin on how all these great songs came about in the first place.I'd recomend this cd to any fan of their music. You will NOT be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent choice of great music, October 1, 1999

This review is from: Ballads (Audio CD)
This cd is a great compilation of music. While it is true that REO has put out more of their share of hits cds, this one is worth having. The two new songs are wonderful. They are perfect for launching REO into the next century with all new music. I take this cd as just a taste of what is to come from the world's greatest rock and roll band.
