JOMF can be undeniably challenging, but this particular album has an atmospheric cohesion that catches your ear the first time around, then proceeds to envelop you on subsequent listens. The album caps off a holy trinity of JOMF releases ("Flags of the Sacred Harp," "Valley of Fire," "Ballads..."), and might just be the best album to start off with if you're new to the band.
