Gr 1-3-An autobiography that's sure to encourage young balletomanes. White, a ballerina with the New York City Ballet, describes how her dream of being a dancer came true. Singularly determined at an early age, she overcame vision problems and stage fright to become a successful dancer, as well as a wife, mother, and teacher. Simply told, her life story can be read easily by the beginning chapter-book crowd, and should inspire them to pursue their own personal aspirations. The soft, pastel-toned illustrations are augmented by a few full-color photos of White en pointe. As a final touch, instructions on how to sew ribbons on toe shoes and how to make a ballerina-bun hairdo are accompanied by step-by-step illustrations. Sure to evoke sighs of envy and admiration, and perhaps a rash of ballerina buns in the early elementary set.-Patricia Manning, formerly at Eastchester Public Library, NY

This review is from: Ballerina Dreams (Hello Reader! Level 3) (Paperback)
This book, although short and recommended for ages 4-8, is inspiring for ages 4-104 (lol). It's great to read when you're discouraged about anything (not just ballet), because it motivates you to get your butt out there and try again! Now on a personal note...Diana is my teacher and has inspired me time after time to work even harder than I thought possible. Get the book and keep it around for when you're down, because it'll help you through almost anything!

Work for your dreams, whatever they are!,

This review is from: Ballerina Dreams (Hello Reader! Level 3) (Paperback)
I'm not a ballerina--I am one of those who took a few years of dance and never had the drive or desire to work at it--but I love this book!White shows that she had to work to achieve her dream, that she sometimes made mistakes, that it helped to have suport of other people but that ultimately it was up to HER. Wonderful!

This review is from: Ballerina Dreams (Scholastic Reader Level 3) (Paperback)
It gave me great pleasure to purchase and now to review Diana's book. I had tried to find copies several years ago but everywhere I looked it was out of stock. Although I have not seen her for many years and never had the pleasure of seeing her dance with the NYC Ballet, I am very proud of her accomplishments and of being able to purchasing copies for my siblings. Now, I will be ordering copies for my grandchildren. The girls will love receiving copies. It is an excellent book for anyone, young or old, who appreciates others who have fulfilled their dreams. The drawings and pictures are wonderful. I recommend this book to anyone who has a child, enjoys ballet or loves to read a wide variety of inspirational books.
