Do you have the desire to begin ballet, but don't have the time to take a formal class? Is there something that makes you feel uncomfortable attending a formal class? Do you just need a refresher course or a practice guide? Maybe, your child expresses an interest in the arts, but your wallet doesn't. Even if you sign your child up, you want him or her to be prepared for the experience. These are the reasons why we made "Ballet 201, Beyond the Basics," and its prerequisite, "Ballet 101, A Beginner's Class." If you are totally new to Ballet, you will need to begin with "Ballet 101." "Ballet 101" will introduce the barre exercises to you. Once you have them down, you can move on to "Ballet 201."
Under the direction of an instructor and her two young protégés, "Ballet 201" will give you a quick review of the barre exercises that you have already learned (without the instruction from "Ballet 101") and add on from there. They both have stretching and warm-up. The class is presented with soft piano accompaniment and the instructor counting out the beats for you to move to. The dance at the end of the class is described, marked and then performed to a classical music piece. Young children should be supervised by an adult so as not to acquire any bad dance habits. Should you have any questions about our classes prior to purchasing, please feel free to contact us at info@abridgeclub.com.
"Ballet 201" is an easy-to-follow, hands-on video that is based upon the syllabus of major a University of California dance program, and is both endorsed and recommended by private instructors. Ballet terms & definitions that assist dancers can be printed from the abridgeclub.com site.
Dancers who are ready to use their new moves in fun & challenging dance combinations to classical music will benefit from, "Ballet 101 & 201, Combinations 1" and "Ballet 101 & 201, Combinations 2". DANCE NOW & TAKE YOUR BOW.

Basic ballet,

This review is from: Ballet 201, Beyond the Basics - VHS (VHS Tape)
This video contains the basic steps of ballet. It's easy to follow for beginners. Each step is thoroughly demonstrated and easy to learn, if you have former ballet experience you will probably find it boring. The tape goes through basic exercises at the barre and in the centre and ends with a little dance made of the steps you just learned. All the beats are counted; I think this makes it easier for the beginner to follow. The instructor is very pleasant and is easy to understand. (I'm not a native English speaker, so clear pronunciation is very important to me.)

I have 2 kids under 3 years of age, and I don't have the time or the money to learn ANYTHING new. I wanted to take a class, and get into shape, and this video offered me the opportunity to do both. I had been checking Ballet 101 out at the local library, and was thrilled to see that both 101 and 201 were available. They are GREAT! I didn't realize the steps were so simple, and I have even made up little recitals of my own using the steps from the videos and some of my classical CDs. The last time I took any dance class was when I was 9. I'm 40 now, and lovin' it!

good for beginners,
This review is from: Ballet 201, Beyond the Basics - VHS (VHS Tape)
The video does give someone with not much ballet experience a good demostration of steps, but it did not feel much like a class because the instructure counted all the beats, and I would have preferred real music. Also I would have liked more emphasise on longer combinations, and less emphasise on how to do the steps. If you have had a lot of ballet experience, this is not the video for you, but if you are still a beginner you should appreciate this video.
