5.0 out of 5 stars By Balloon to the Sahara
ISBN 0553209493 - Stumbling across this book, sheerly by accident, has me wondering why I'd never heard of the series before! Based on this particular title, this is an excellent idea and will engage budding adventure fans from the start.

The storyline, of course, is practically impossible to recount in any way, because the storyline depends on your choices...

1.0 out of 5 stars the worst book ever
I would suggest this book only if you collect the series or if you wish to punish your brother by reading it to him. This review has more character development than the book had. There are several choices that try to give you control over something that you can not possibly have control over. It seems randomly put together and I'm glad D.Terman did not write more...

5.0 out of 5 stars By Balloon to the Sahara, February 13, 2007
This review is from: By Balloon to the Sahara (Choose Your Own Adventure #3) (Paperback)
ISBN 0553209493 - Stumbling across this book, sheerly by accident, has me wondering why I'd never heard of the series before! Based on this particular title, this is an excellent idea and will engage budding adventure fans from the start.

The storyline, of course, is practically impossible to recount in any way, because the storyline depends on your choices. The only constant is how it starts - you visit friends in France, rent a balloon and hop in. From there, at every turn, you have to make decisions. Go north or go south, peaceful negotiations or attack, swim for the shore or wait for rescue. Every choice leads you to a different page and takes the story down a different path.

A few choices lead to rather sorry - even scary - endings, and not just endings of the story, but your own ending! For example, one storyline has you drifting away into space, where the lack of oxygen leads to your demise. Maybe not appropriate for the ultra-sensitive or kids under 10 (depends, of course, on your kid!). All in all, a fun ride and even a few lessons - the first of which is everything you do has a consequence! Great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can you survive?, February 3, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: By Balloon to the Sahara (Choose Your Own Adventure #3) (Paperback)
You are visiting friends in France. You, and your two friends, rent a balloon, pack some food, grab the dog and take off! But the best laid plans of mice and men never go right. Soon a storm appears, and you have to decide what to do? Will you try to land? Or wait out the storm? Let out some air or wait to see what happens next?
The choice is up to you but remember not all endings are good. And some endings are the end of you!
Buwahahahahahahaha!

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting choices, December 21, 1998
By A Customer
"D. Terman" has to be a pen name, doesn't it? But anyway, this is one of the bedrock greats of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" series for kids. Just about anything can happen in this exciting everything-but-the-kitchen-sink set of tales.
