Great Color Pictures Of Current Ballparks, BUT...,

This review is from: Ballparks: A Panoramic History (Hardcover)
...there aren't as many of the old, non-existant parks as one might be led to believe! There are a "few" here and there of the Polo Grounds, Ebbets Field, Tiger Stadium, (original) Yankee Stadium, Shibe Park, Forbes Field and Comiskey Park. But the people involved in putting this volume together missed out on several of the others such as Sportsman's Park, Crosley Field, Braves Field, etc. that are such a big part of baseball's heritage! Also, the copyright year(2004) must have been the early part of the year. Why? Simply with the mere mention of the two parks that opened this past season.....Petco Park(San Diego) and the new Philadelphia park but no pictures AT ALL!! I guess I'll have to be more careful in selecting "books" over the internet in the future....unless I've already had the opportunity to examine them ahead of time(locally) or received a good recommendation from a reputed individual whom I am familiar with beforehand as well!!!

Low quality editing,

While the size of the photos is a treat, this book offers little else. Most every photo can be seen in other books, and the editing is just horrible. There are many captions that are clearly in error, for example, calling a US Cellular game between Chi and Clv the all-star game, and labeling a Dodger Stadium pic as being from 1983 when it is clearly within the last 4 years. Who dunnit????

Fast delivery. Item was as described except book spine was damaged (cracked), probably in shipping. Packaging was not thick enough to protect against rough handling. Seller might consider better method of packing. My husband loved his gift and is enjoying the beautiful illustrations.

This is such a wonderful book. The photos, the colors, it took me back to my childhood. While it was given to me as a gift, I should have bought it before. If you are looking for a gift for that baseball nut you have in your family, get them this book. You will not go wrong and they will love you for it.

A "must have" if you love Ballparks!,

This review is from: Ballparks: A Panoramic History (Hardcover)
If you love ballparks then this book has got to be in your book collection. It's a huge book, (you'll need an extra large coffee table once you've opened it up), crammed with wonderful aerial and panoramic views of old and new ballparks. The quality of some photos is better than others and there are numerous mistakes in some of the text but that doesn't detract from the fact that most of the panoramic shots are of the jaw-dropping variety. What helps this book is that the pictures are so large. I hate those ballpark books where you see a stadium from above and it's the size of a postage stamp and it's also blurred. If you're looking for a history of these parks, then this book isn't for you. Just enjoy opening up the book and make believe you actually are sitting in Fenway, Wrigley, PNC and Yankee Stadium. A visual treat!

The new best ballpark picture book!,
By
This review is from: Ballparks: A Panoramic History (Hardcover)
The physically large size of this book allows huge panoramic pictures of many of the ballparks covered. You feel like you are actually sitting in a ballpark seat watching a game while looking out at the field and stands. Beautiful color photos! I love ballpark books - this would get 7 starts if that were possible in the Amazon rating system! Buy it!

This volume is a must for sports enthusiasts everywhere. The photos
of the various ballparks are spectacular feats of color photography. The Camden Yards are presented. The picture depicts the Yankees/Orioles contest in August of 2003. A panoramic shot of the Oriole Park depicts nightfall in the ballpark. There are similar spectacular views of Fenway Park, Memorial Stadium and Shea Stadium in NYC. A full color picture of Pro-Player Stadium provides a considerable conversation piece for Miami Dolphin fans. The book is worth the price of admission for the diehard sports fans. This volume would make a perfect school project for the student in your family. |
