Another Great Album From Scarface,
This review is from: Balls & My Word (Audio CD)
from the west was 2pac. from the east was biggie. and from the south was scarface. he is one of the greatest rappers to ever bless the game. He never makes bad albums and this is no exception. face has gone back to rapalot records and for face fans that should be enough for you to know this album will be good. It ain't as good as the fix but its still a great album.

What you gon' do Face? What you gon' do?,
By J. Highsmith (Mitchellville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Balls & My Word (Audio CD)
After 7 solo CDs, including the double disc, "My Homies", Scarface is back with another one after dropping "The Fix" in August of 2002. "The Fix" displayed a more mature sounding Scarface as his gangsta fairytales were exchanged with collaborations with Kelly Price, Faith Evans, and Tanya Herron. "The Fix" was very well rounded and with tracks like "In Cold Blood", "What Can I Do", "On My Block", "Heaven", "Guess Who's Back" w/Jay Z & Beanie Sigel and "I Ain't The One" with WC is was hard to argue that this offering was one of Scarface's best. However, J Prince who is the head of Rap-A-Lot records, was not happy with the way Def Jam handled "The Fix". So 8 months later, in what I see as an attempt to try to resurrect the struggling label, Scarface is back once again. The CD starts off with an interlude from the movie, "Scarface", and from there Face is back in gangsta mode on this CD. "Recognize" gets things off to an impressive start as he pulls out some of the old Scarface that most of his core fans are used to. This is definitely my favorite song on this CD. "On My Grind" follows the same format and fans of Face's earlier CDs will enjoy this song as well. Scarface collaborates with Z-Ro, Dirt Bomb and Bun B of UGK on the 50 Cent diss track "[***-***]". Following a concert in Washington DC, it didn't seem as if Scarface and the infamous Backyard Band were too impressed with some of 50's antics. "Stuck At A Standstill", "Make Your Peace", and "Dirty Money" with Tanya Herron are vintage Scarface songs as well. Devin The Dude and Tela join Face on the hilarious but true "Only Your Mother" as the three collaborate together about a woman who thought she was too high post for everyone, but in the end once they got famous wanted to try to get with them. If you haven't picked up Devin The Dude's "Just Trying To Live", then believe me you need to do so. "Mary 2" is a midtempo sequel to the Scarface classic "Mary Jane", that Irv Gotti & Ashanti decided that she had to use on her debut CD. "Mary 2" is a nice song but it could never compare to the original track. This latest Scarface CD will definitely satisfy the core Scarface fan of his earlier music. "The Fix" is a better all around CD in my opinion. However, any Scarface CD is worth having in your collection. Track Listing: 1) Intro James' Top 5 1) Recognize

Back to the old,

This review is from: Balls & My Word (Audio CD)
This Cd takes you back to what face used to sound like. This album is more like the diary then his last two albums. there is more of that ruff thug ... on this one. However this album is very suspious. If you look you will see that this album was put out by rap-a-lot not def jam south like the fix was. So why would face leave his comfortable position as the head of def jam south to go back to to the ultra cheap rap-a-lot. This is why the album was not promoted and has a cheap insert ala rap-a-lot. There is also no telling when these songs were produced this album sounds like a lost tracks album becuase it does not follow suit with his others. For instance track #8 Make Yo Peace has some of the exact same lyrics as track #11 heaven on the fix word for word. This album does bump and is better tan his last couple but is it really new?

Mr. Scarface is back. Brad Jordan, needs no introduction, representing the streets of Houston, Texas since his debut with the Geto Boys over 15 years ago. Since then, he's recorded countless classic albums and songs, the essence of true hip hop, most recently last summer's The Fix.Balls and My Word continues a long line of classic Scarface LPs. With support from renown Houston artists such as Z-Ro, Devin the Dude, and Bun B of UGK, Scarface produces numerous banging tracks. With Scarface, you expect lyrically profound songs striking a chord with the soul of the streets. Like Tony Montana said, nothing but Balls and My Word and neither of those are broken.

What I expected, another great Scarface album!,
This review is from: Balls & My Word (Audio CD)
Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents here. This album doesn't disappoint. It's got typical, smooth Scarface lyrics. I recommend it for a great "work to" CD (if you like to work to rap!)In short, buy it.

ALL I HAVE IN THIS WORLD! Actually 3 and 3/4th stars,

SCARFACE- BALLS AND MY WORDDude just dropped a CD like 10 months ago. Normally that's a bad sign. The Jay Z disease. But since it's Scarface you have to initially give him a little slack. Actually alot of this material is unreleased recordings before he went to Def Jam. In any case it's still a solid 'Face effort. The CD starts with the classic "All I have In this world" Scarface movie sample. They dropped the 808 on this and looped that sample over and over. Classic Geto Boyz signature. Good intro to let you know this is old school Scarface. Track 2 "Recognize" is a good cut with that classic Face reppin the hood, still reppin J. Prince. Very tight flow. Track 3 "On The Grind" keeps it moving. His detail is more evident than ever on this cut. Track 4 "B*tch N*ggas" is the highly publicized 50 cent diss. 'Face says he isn't dissin 50 though. Never did he mention 50 on his verse and he says his verse was recorded a few years ago. In fact on the CD the opening lyrics by Z RO on this cut are eliminated and no references to 50 are made. I guess we'll know for real if 50 replies. Track 5 "Stuck at a Standstill" keeps it movin. More like a lyrical freestyle. Track's 7 and 8 are the classics from this CD. Track 7 "Only your Mother" is the classic song dissing gold diggin women. The song reminds you of Dr. Dre's "F**k U" from the Chronic 2001 CD. Just like on that song Devin the Dude makes a classic appearance, along with Tela. It's something about Devin's flow and singin on a song that just sets it off. Very explicit to the degree that it's more comedy than anything. Track 8 "Make Your Peace" is the classic Scarface rhyme about the after life. Real hauntin beat and his flow is all over the place. No classic 16 bars here. This is reminiscent of his last CD. Very spiritual song but the approach is straight street. Great song. Track 9 "Spend The Night" ha a real nice hand clappin beat. He's flowin in a real low, I'm on my 5th Bud Ice type tone. Pretty much talkin about his old flames and seeing them again. After this cut the CD falls off a lil bit. Track 10 is a spooky sounding "Mary 2". Not really feelin that cut. Track 11 "Dirty Money" is unimpressive and Track 13 "Invincible" is some rapid pace song that doesn't fit his style. Track 14 is an interesting cut called "Real N*gg* Blues". It's a story told about a dude that takes the rap for his homies and won't snitch, told by some cat in the 'Face entourage. Overall I liked this CD, not as strong as his last effort but strong enough to invest in.

yes, he has went back to rap-alot and got mike dean and n.o joe to but that g-rated music back into his album. the fix was good, but any true scarface fan knows that him and rapalot mix together real good. this album to me is like if you combine the diary and last of a dying breed together. i luv scarface cause always kept it real for us present and past street dwellers. the only knock on this album is on maybe two songs he uses some verses he has already kicked on other outside projects. true fans will notice, others won't-so thats okay. go get the album, trust me, thats my balls and my word.....
