Brian Quigley's daughter, Niamh, is set to wed Ambrose, the earnest village guard, in the third episode of the Ballykissangel series, "Live in My Heart and Pay No Rent." A falling statue of John the Evangelist seems to have different plans for the groom and causes Ambrose to choose a different path. An even more pressing crisis is affecting Brendan, Bally's only remaining faithful (Guinness) stout drinker, as Assumpta decides not to offer the quintessential Irish drink on tap any more. "Fallen Angel" finds a pirate radio station, Angel FM, and its DJ broadcasting hip tunes, wisecracks, and local gossip in an atrocious American accent over the town. When the DJ reveals that it's Father Clifford's birthday, Assumpta thinks up a gift that will surely get things rolling. --Amanda Powter

This review is from: BallyKissAngel: Vol.2 -Live In My Heart And Pay No Rent, Fallen Angel [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Having seen the show on BBC America, I generally took after getting the newly released videos. Ballykissangel is an entertaining Irish comedy filled with eccentric characters and plots that makes it sort of an Irish NORTHERN EXPOSURE. The cast of characters include Father Peter Clifford, an english priest just recently arrived; Assumpta Fitzgerald, the no-nonsense barkeeper who becomes attracted to the new curate; The shrewd businessman Brian Quigley; his fiery daughter Niamh and her fiancee, by-the-book Gardi Ambrose Egan. The videos released are from the premiere season, which I believe was the best because of its tounge-in-cheek humor and positive tone (In the future, BallyK, while still keeping its brand of humor, generally turned more dramatic and darker in the later seasons, as key characters either left or got killed off). Of the three videos, volume two- where Ambrose nearly becomes a priest, and Father Clifford taking driving lessons- is probably my favorite, cleverly funny and entertaining. Like the rest of the videos, this features a behind-the-scenes look on the show: a definitive must for BallyK fans.
