A Master of the Female Form Amplified, May 7, 2007
This review is from: Balthus Drawings (Hardcover)
In his own words, Balthus states, "when you draw you are at the heart of the world..." From this book of drawings you begin to see how Balthus reached this conclusion, almost as though he himself was at the core of the universe. Beautiful studies in charcoal, pencil, ink, crayon and watercolor from which many of his paintings emerged - a wonderful compendium of sketches that are seductive and intoxicating.

Love him or hate him, December 12, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Balthus Drawings (Hardcover)
Look at the skeletons of Balthus' familiar works. The over-worked paintings of late might lead one to assume a lack of spark.
Here you find some fresh and direct drawings on paper. You might question the subjects he chooses as I do, but the love of gesture and mark-making evident are persuasive.
Put in your library with other great draftsman.
