About the Author

Marci Lynn McGuinness, history author and lecturer, has gathered over 200 images to create the first B&O history of this kind. Many of the photographs are from a rare collection photographed by Henry Jackson in 1891. Local contributors have allowed their family heirlooms to complete this pictorial history of a time of wealth and progress in southwest Pennsylvania. This one-of-a-kind title is sure to please both residents of the areas covered and any railroad enthusiast. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

More About the Author

Marci Lynn McGuinness Authors 26th Book
Author/Publisher/Historian/Screenwriter/Speaker

The release of Speedway Kings of Southwestern Pennsylvania & Region, 100 Years of Racing History marks McGuinness' 30th year as a publisher and author. This full color volume also sets her up as THE expert on the infamous Uniontown Speedway board track, sponsored by Carl Laemmle, Universal Films President, coal and coke barons, and auto industry moguls. Over 225 never before published photos tell the story of how this mile and an eight board track brought fame and fortune to SW PA, until Charlie Johnson ran to Cuba with the money. Speedway Kings of the 1020's to 2011 are also depicted through photos, stories, quotes, and notes. What fun!
Marci Lynn McGuinness is a high-energy book publisher whose niche is preserving the remarkable and unique history and legends of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Since 1981, she has written, released, and promoted 26 books of her own, and dozens for other authors. To research her popular 6-book Yesteryear series, she interviewed the culturally rich mountain region's eldest people, recording their memories. The pictorial books relay these stories and those of the thousands of vintage photographs she has collected.
McGuinness' work has led her to uncover untold stories of national significance. Three of her books, Message of the Sacred Buffalo, Yesteryear at the Uniontown Speedway, and Gone to Ohiopyle, are incredible, exciting true stories she is working to adapt to the big screen.
From George Washington to Vivian Prescott, Barney Oldfield, Henry Ford and Frank Lloyd Wright, Ghostbusting, early wooden Boardtrack Racing and Sacred Buffalo, the characters and subjects of McGuinness', work have created in her, an expert on the history and legends of southwestern Pennsylvania.
The author/publisher is the mother of grown twin daughters and lives along the Mon River with her wily Jack Russell Terrier, Jake.
A member of the New York Center for Independent Publishing, Ink Tip, the Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau, and the Fayette County Chamber of commerce, the author lives her work, promoting through television, radio, events, print, web and her tourism map, Around Ohiopyle. She strives to share SW PA history's incredible stories and her original fiction.

This review is from: Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (Images of America (Arcadia Publishing)) (Paperback)
This book contains over 200 pictures of the railway, stations, bridges etc. However, there is almost no text, so get it if you want the pictures of the B&O and won't mind the lack of text.
