5.0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful
This is a great C.D.! Love is a Song is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It was nominated for an Academy Award that year. My other favorites are April Showers, Looking for Romance, Let's Sing a Gay Little Spring Song, and Wintry Winds. The booklet included with the C.D. is great.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware the MP3s!
I bought the first few mp3s from this CD and the audio quality was awful. They had a hissing sibilance all the way through, and the volume was so low I had to turn my mp3 player all the way up--and it still wasn't loud enough! (I was listening on headphones.) Needless to say, I didn't buy the rest of the files. Bad job, Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Academy Award nominated Score and Song, May 3, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bambi (Audio CD)
This is a modern Disney original soundtrack restoration from the 1942 movie by master restoration producer Randy Thornton. He has taken the original soundtrack music recorded in the 1940's, reconstructed it,and de-noised it so that it sounds clean and crisp. The song "Love is a Song" was nominated for an Academy Award but was beat out by "White Christmas" that year. The Score was also nominated for 'Best Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture category'. Long time Disney Studio composer Frank Churchill and Larry Morey wrote the 4 songs that had lyrics for Bambi, and had worked together on the songs for Snow White. The movie was made during the period when Walt was still very involved in every aspect of developing an animated feature, and Bambi was no exception. He pushed his composers hard to come up with the sound he envisioned. Bambi is known as "Walt's personal favorite". The feature had only 900 words of dialogue, so it was intended that the score and songs would carry the emotions and story. This soundtrack has less lyrics than any other Disney feature with the exception of Fantasia.

There is even a demo of a song that was cut from the movie included here as a bonus "Rain Drops" which influenced a later song "Little April April Showers". There is a great 15 page booklet with song lyrics, great liner notes, and terrific artwork from the movie. All total the CD lists 16 tracks and 53 minutes of music. Overall a gem of Disney history and very fun to listen to. These restoration CD's from Disney are a great deal being very affordable.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Emotional an Experience as the Movie Itself, October 7, 2002
This review is from: Bambi (Audio CD)
In few Disney soundtracks is the composer's gift better showcased than here. Much of the impact of "Bambi" was carried by music and visuals rather than dialogue, and playing this CD makes it clear just how much of your impression of this or any movie you get, unconsciously, from the music drifting out of your speakers. Tracks like "Everybody Awake," "Learning to Walk," "Little April Shower," "Gallop of the Stags," "Man," "Fun on the Ice," "Tragedy in the Meadow," "Bambi Gets Twitterpated/Stag Fight," "Man Returns," and "Fire/Reunion/Finale" fit the action so perfectly that you see the scenes replaying in your mind. Then there are the beautiful vocals "Love is a Song" and "I Bring You a Song," which should have sunk into the public consciousness the way "Heigh-Ho" (from "Snow White") or "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" (from "Cinderella") did. A beautiful score.

5.0 out of 5 stars Walt Disney's best score to his personal favorite movie., April 15, 2001
This review is from: Bambi (Audio CD)
Walt Disney's "Bambi" is my favorite of his movies, and this soundtrack is his best. Aside from "Pinocchio", Disney has never been better. The music and songs are vintage Disney classics. One of the songs, "Love Is a Song", was nominated for an Oscar. The musical score was also nominated. My favorite tracks are "Wintery Winds", played during the film's most remembered sequence [the death of Bambi's mother], and the song "Looking for Romance". The lyrics to that song are probably more romantic and haunting than any other song I've heard in a Disney movie. I wish Walt was alive today so I could tell him how much "Bambi" and "Pinocchio" mean to me, and how much I love those films' musical scores and songs.

I love the movie, Bambi, and I love the music used in it, too. I love the way the music tells the story. Without seeing the movie, you still have a good idea of what's going on. I also love the choral groups that sing the songs - you can easily imagine raindrops, and even the wind, singing. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another great Disney score, January 12, 2012
By
langleybcguy (Langley, BC, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bambi (Audio CD)
1942's 'Bambi' was unique from Walt Disney's perspective; he had decided to make an animated film that starred only animal characters. That film was Felix Salten's 'Bambi', the story of a baby deer facing the challenges of growing up. Walt's film did not disappoint; it pioneered the use of the multiplane camera in creating the forest scenes and had used live animal studies to get ideas for animation. The score & songs, by Larry Morey & Frank Churchill, not only tell the story well but enhance its wonderful characters and message.

The songs alternate between romantic melodies ('Love is a Song', 'I Bring you a Song'), and lively ones ('Little April Shower'). Also included was an alternate song for the 'April Shower' scene; it was ultimately tossed in favor of the former. The score is amazingly telling as to what is happening in the story; 'Sleepy Morning' as the woodland animals come to see the new prince; 'Gallop of the Stags' as the adult deer charge onto the meadow where Bambi & his mother are eating, and Bambi has his first encounter with the Great Prince of the Forest; 'The Meadow/Bambi sees Faline/Bambi gets annoyed' when the little deer has his first encounter with a doe named Faline - who he grows up to love. The score has some dark undertones as well; most notable is 'Man' - showing the deer fleeing the meadow, followed by a gunshot that misses. The most chilling of these is 'Tragedy in the Meadow', featuring a long, sinister cello/bass cue as the crows alert Bambi & his mother to Man's presence as they eat a patch of new spring grass.

Another marvelous Disney score. This one belongs in any Disney fan's collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars As delightful as the movie, March 31, 2011

I have nothing bad to say about this soundtrack. Though chilling at parts, as it is with the movie, the majority of this score is as lighthearted and adorable as young Bambi and his excursions with Thumper. I am particularly fond of the Main Title, Little April Shower, and Fun On the Ice. The vocals and instruments used to express the feelings of the mostly-silent characters in this animated gem is a purely genuine combination of innocent curiosity and fearful urgency. With over an hour of track time, any Disney lover will want to snatch this up asap!

The end of the soundtrack includes bonus material (the last 4 tracks), and usually I delete these from my iTunes (like I did with Beauty and the Beast), but something about the heartfelt voices of the creators (even Disney himself!) adds an even greater emphasis on the beauty of this classic - enough so that I enjoy listening to them even when I have my iTunes on Shuffle.
