Design: These unique, one-of-a-kind Reflex/Deflex longbows are made with a bamboo backing and belly. The belly bamboo has been carbonized which increases the stiffness of bamboo and increases cast. "It looks pretty awesome also!" Each one is about 66" inches tip-to-tip and draws between 50-55#'s at 28".
Bow Core: The bow core is multiple laminates of tapered IPE (Brazilian Walnut), Osage Orange and Hard Maple. The laminations are custom made in my own shop using proprietary tapers.
Riser: The riser/handle is half Bloodwood which has a beautiful deep red color and the other half is Walnut (woods may vary from time-to-time but exotic combinations consistently used). The riser has a pronounced deflex which carries out into the limbs...giving each bow a "sea gull floating on the breeze" look and a net reflex of 1-2" when unbraced. The profile looks triangular when braced and the string rest on the bow's belly for the last 2-3"...almost a recurve! The shelf is rounded for reduced arrow drag and is laid out about 1.25" above the bow's center.
Special thanks goes to my friend, mentor and Master Bowyer James Parker who who helped me take my skills to the next level.
These bows are smooth drawing, fast and have virtually no hand shock.
Finish: Each bow has a unique, one-of-a-kind dye finsih with several layers of "Blood Red" and Jet Black (or simular colors) colors "splashed" along the limbs and riser...truely beautiful to look at. I finish these bows with several coats of hand painted Thunderbird Epoxy. This epoxy finish is tuff when dried but a bear to brush on so there may be some minor blemishes in the finish...it is hand made!
