5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for arthritis sufferers.
The red rubber grip is soft and spongy, and the clipping takes almost no hand strength. Excellent product.

1.0 out of 5 stars OUCH!
Dog's fine.... but my right hand ain't!
Extremely bad handle design: a common flaw on many cheap
tools, the handle snapped shut on the skin of my palm, leaving
me with an inch-long blood blister. (and, the blades are poorly
mated and too loose to provide a clean nail-cut after a few uses)

Amazon has other, better choices.

4.0 out of 5 stars Your dog's new nail trimmer, March 2, 2008

This review is from: Bamboo Dog Guillotine Nail Trimmer with Styptic and File (Colors Vary) (Kitchen)
The hardest thing about using this trimmer is that after the first time you use it, the dog knows what you're up to.

The Bamboo 021121 Dog Guillotine Nail Trimmer with Styptic and File is a good, sharp, quality nail trimmer. It cuts cleanly and quickly and is easy to position correctly. My arthritic hands do not fight with it (which is good, because they're busy holding the dog still).

The handle contains styptic, which makes me more confident when trimming, but I haven't needed to use it yet. Nor have I needed the file - which is good, because the dog does not have the patience for it. I can basically get in just a couple of nails at a time with this guy.

All in all this nail trimmer is completely adequate. No need to spend more.

I bought this trimmer after trying 2 other brands of trimmers that I hated. This is definately worth the bargain price. It is lightweight, easy to use, clips quick and even. The file and styptic in the handle are a great bonus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Consistently sharp nail clippers with excellent styptic applicator., March 25, 2009
By

This review is from: Bamboo Dog Guillotine Nail Trimmer with Styptic and File (Colors Vary) (Kitchen)
The Bamboo brand Nail clippers are consistently sharp (no split nails, or pinched nerves due to a dull blade) and the nail cuts cleanly, without snapping and pinching that dull blades cause. The ergonomically curved handle has a rubber insert that helps keep a good grip and prevent slipping. This is especially useful when dealing with squirmy dogs.

The removable styptic tube/file and applicator is perfect for using just the right amount of styptic and the applicator is ergonomically designed to fit the shape of a dog's nail. No mess, no wastage. There is also a small metal nail file on the side of the applicator tube but the cut is usually so clean that there isn't really a use for it.

For people who tend to get their hand pinched by scissor-style clippers, this style pinches the least. However, the Guilotine-style clippers may work better for you.

The downside to this clipper is that the handle is made of plastic and that it doesnt last long for a grooming salon that handles lots of dogs. For a home user, this should last problem free.

A few improvements for a home user would be the addition of a nail guard for really squirmy dogs and inexperienced owners. (A piece of metal that swings out to prevent cutting off too much nail at once)

All Bamboo brand products come with a small illustrated 'How to' guide and this is no exception. Overall an excellent product for both home and limited salon use.

Bamboo also sells replacement styptic applicator tubes/refills that fit into the handles pefectly.

For once, we (or anyone) can cut our lab/border-collie mix' nails without him putting up a fight. They aren't able to clip his nails at the vet, but my husband has been using these clippers on our dog for the past few months with great success. Our dog really doesn't mind this at all, and we don't have to spend $20 to have the vet ATTEMPT to cut his nails. We've never cut "too far" or hurt him with this product; I highly recommend.

This nail trimmer is lightweight and comfortable in my size medium hand and cuts easily through the nails of my 45-pound dog. I also use it on a 20-pound dog. It's super convenient to have a stash of styptic right in the handle. It was somewhat difficult to remove the styptic reservoir from the handle to fill it up but easier to remove after that first time.

Very light & well built. I have a 60lb mutt who hates to have her nails clipped. This trimmer cut right through instantly. The nail file is an added plus for those pesky dew claws. The styptic is nice in case you trim too close.

nice and sharp, easy to use, but made of pretty crappy materials. the bit that holds the springs in broke off within a few uses. . . rendering it useless. . .

While I like the style and ease of this product I find my dog's nails are too tough for it. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't buy it.
