Book Description

3764374810 978-3764374815 March 2, 2002 1

Bamboo and its many varieties are becoming ever more popular as a design material for landscapes, squares, and gardens. With its widely varying hardiness, height, and leaf structure, the grass can be cultivated under many different conditions, and because of its special physical characteristics it can also be used as a material in related domains such as architecture, furniture design, and flower arrangement.

The extensive technical section of the book describes the properties and habitat requirements of the plant, the breeding of varieties, and the methods of propagation. It then goes on to explore its use and significance in urban and natural settings. Authors with technical expertise in the relevant fields, including the director of the Oprins bamboo tree nursery, and striking color illustrations convey exhaustive technical and botanical information and examples of the creative use of bamboo, especially in urban and natural settings.

5.0 out of 5 stars well worth the purchase, August 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bamboo (Hardcover)
Bamboo by Jan Oprins is a wonderful resource book - apart from being large enough to be considered a coffee table book, it is full of beautiful photos of Bamboo varieties and landscapes. As soon as I opened the parcel - I knew it was a great purchase !! The information on propagation is insightful and a good starting point for me to explore further.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book!, February 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bamboo (Hardcover)
This is a fantastic book for someone interested in learning more about bamboo. It's definitely on an intermediate to expert knowledge level. For me, the amount of material concerning propagation methods was a little disappointing because that is my main concern, but hey, the book is wonderfully designed and enjoyable for anyone interested in bamboo. This is definitely a book you would want to put on display.
