4.0 out of 5 stars Wacom delivers with Bamboo Fun!

2.0 out of 5 stars White Bamboo Fun Pen turns red
Let me start out by saying that I love wacom tablets and have owned many over the years. At my place of work everyone in my department uses a Bamboo Fun Medium size. We have 1 white tablet and many black ones. The white tablet's pen has turned red in the lower half. I'm told by wacom that this is common, and since it does not effect the use of the pen it is not under...

4.0 out of 5 stars Wacom delivers with Bamboo Fun!, October 14, 2007
This review is from: Bamboo Fun (Medium) White Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software (Personal Computers)
Wacom has brought this technology a long way. This product is more affordable than the higher end Intuos3 models, yet powerful enough for many pros.

For me, the small size is perfect and will fit most users needs. The "medium" sized tablet is suited for hard core graphics people who need to work at the pixel level for large images. Those using this for the mouse also may prefer the medium size. Either way, the tablet maps to your screen size for any of these models.

This unit comes in a variety of colors and configurations. I prefer the look of the black tablet, but there are silver, white and blue ones also.

Upon plugging in the device, it works immediately! The pen works as a mouse or as a pen/brush for drawing applications. The tablet also has function buttons.

The mouse is nice because it allows you to free up a USB port if you're using a USB mouse. Power users will need more from a mouse though. If you're anything like me, you prefer a mouse with many more options than this one provides.

Installing the drivers and software allows you to access the settings and tools that make this device versatile and customizable. Be prepared to spend some time tweaking this unit to your likes. The Bamboo software allows you to customize the mouse or pen buttons. Left-handers will greatly appreciate this!

The software included with this device is a nice to have. Many people who buy this will already have or need full blown Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Elements gives you everything casual users need. The Corel application is nice to play with. But other than a few "macro" type functions I have yet to find anything I can't already do with Adobe. Perhaps newer users may find the Corel product more user-friendly.

Pros
+ USB connection
+ Works on XP and Vista almost plug and play - before software installation
+ Nice customizable software
+ Nice bundled applications - Adobe Elements and Corel Draw
+ No additional power adapter needed
+ Traditional or pen mouse for casual users

Cons
- The scrolling zoom function does not work uniformly on all applications
- The mouse with this model will not suffice for power users
- Default settings require a lot of adjusting for graphics editing
- The tablet would have been ideal with several additional USB ports

Overall, the graphic artist or visual junkie NEEDS one of these. If you are a casual user, it is worth getting one on sale.

Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWSOME!, December 4, 2008
This review is from: Bamboo Fun (Medium) White Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software (Personal Computers)
I have a Wacom Intuos 9x12 which I couldn't live without but It's a pain to drag it from work to home every day and deal with hooking it up so I took a look at this tablet.

I was a little skeptical that the reduced size and the consumer level price tag would mean that it wouldn't preform well enough to meet my needs.

This tablet has great resolution and is the perfect replacement for the mouse. I still prefer my Intuos when I'm doing heavy graphic stuff but for every-day use the bamboo is awsome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tablet with some limitations, July 31, 2008
This review is from: Bamboo Fun (Medium) White Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software (Personal Computers)
I purchased this pen tablet to go with my brand new macbook. Installation was a breeze, and it has a great interactive tutorial. The software bundle (photoshop elements and corel painter essential) is a bit out-of-date, not current versions of the software. The tablet is easy to use, and surprisingly accurate. Feels very paper-like, although it makes a little scratching noise, when you touch the surface the stylus. Works flawlessly with the macbook's built-in ink applcation, and you can take notes that immediately convert to typed text, with amazing accuracy.

My only problem is that since the the active area of the tablet corresponds to your screen, you can't rotate the tablet (unless you rotate the screen, which is not that easy to do with a laptop, although I have yet to try it with my external monitor), so unfortunately it is in fact a lot smaller than you would think based on the dimensions. (I draw fashion sketches, so they tend to be vertical)

I do love the corel painter application that came with it, and will probably buy the current, full version. It has great, realistic watercolor renderings, and works perfectly with the tablet.

In retrospect, I think I would have been better off saving some money and buying the modbook (a tablet version of the macbook) instead. Maybe next time.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Bamboo Fun (Medium) White Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software (Personal Computers)
I havent had much experience in tablets, but this one is great!it didnt take long to ship, and came with all the parts fully intact and included. it comes with tablet, usb cord, pen, pen stand, wireless mouse and two installation discs. one is a helpful tutorial and the other is painting programs.the first dic worked ok, but for some reason the 2nd one,(paint programs) isn't working. :/ ill get it worked out later though. this tablet works great with The GIMP if you dont have photoshop. its a free, safe download and a wonderful program. the tablet is plug and playso you dont even have to install the 2nd disc if you dont want to i guess...when the tablet came i was thrilled. beautiful packaging and beautiful product! the usb cord is a nice length. when i took it out it was bigger, and slimmer than i originally expected. at first i thought this tablet was going to be too small of a drawing suface, but after i started using it, i immediatly realized it was the perfect size :)i higly reccomend this product. truth to be told, its really fun

2.0 out of 5 stars White Bamboo Fun Pen turns red, November 12, 2009
This review is from: Bamboo Fun (Medium) White Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software (Personal Computers)
Let me start out by saying that I love wacom tablets and have owned many over the years. At my place of work everyone in my department uses a Bamboo Fun Medium size. We have 1 white tablet and many black ones. The white tablet's pen has turned red in the lower half. I'm told by wacom that this is common, and since it does not effect the use of the pen it is not under warranty. I recommenced getting another color since the white ones don't stay white. Also these tablets have replaceable nibs which we go though rather quickly. You might want to have a few on hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, August 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bamboo Fun (Medium) White Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software (Personal Computers)
I have never used a tablet before, nor seen one, so I did some research on them before I bought one. Because I'm going to be using a tablet for graphic design, I didn't want a tiny one or one that didn't work very well. This Bamboo fun medium tablet seemed like the right one for my budget so I got it.

In some aspects, it was a lot more than I expected.

First, the white color really wasn't very bad, as I thought it would be. I opted for a silver to match with my macbook pro, but amazon didn't have one so I bought the white.

The bird's eye view picture of the tablet made it look very thick, and I had second thoughts about buying. But it's actually very thin and sleek, not the bulky look I imagined.

I also worried about the size of it. Usually I draw on large sized canvases, so I wasn't sure if a 6x8 frame was enough for me. But when I got it, it was actually a pretty large space for drawing. And since it isn't a canvas, it's very different when drawing. It's definitely big enough for me.

The mouse is wireless, but it doesn't work on the table. It works only when placed ON the tablet, which makes it practically useless for me. I would much rather reach out and use my wired mouse.

The buttons and scroll aren't that useful for me either. I find that it is most convenient to draw, right click, and scroll with the pen, and the buttons are just not that convenient.

Overall, I think it's a great tablet, much more than I expected. I really enjoy the pressure sensitivity.

i just got this in the mail the other day and i'm already in love with it. i'm a design student and use it mostly for line art in illustrator. the resolution being lower than the intuos tablets, it's perfect for what i use it for. the price and design is great. its about the size of a mouse pad and about as thin as my ipod nano (2nd gen). no complaints except maybe it would be nice if it came with a plastic cover like the old graphire 4s so you could keep it a little cleaner and customize it with pictures under the cover. but thats totally just an extra. i still love it. i highly recommend it for anyone who usues a computer a lot, even if it's not for design/art work. the speed at which you can navigate is like 25 MPH compared to a mouse which is like going 5 MPH.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bamboo Fun (Medium) White Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software (Personal Computers)
Alright I ordered this product from amazon for a great price, saved me nearly $40 as compared to other stores. Now the product arrived on time and the extra features are great. Now I've never used a tablet before and this works great, comes with 3 different photoshop programs,The mouse DOES NOT NEED BATTERIES which I love, and comes with a few extra pen tips. The tablet is very sensitive, which improve accuracy and you don't even need to put the mouse on the pad, you can hold it above the pad and it works well. I'm impressed and am soooo glad I bought the medium tablet.

Bamboo works well. It's very sensitive. Learning curve is simple. It's so much easier doing masks, outlines, etc with the pen.

I'm using this on Windows XP and Photoshop CS3 mainly for photo editing.

I didn't want to pay the extra cost for the wireless mouse that is included and was dissapointed that Amazon didn't offer the bamboo without the mouse. But now i'm glad about having the mouse since my work space is small and I don't have room for a regular mouse and a mouse pad. Plus it free's up a USB port that I would have used for a mouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bamboo Fun, February 10, 2009
This review is from: Bamboo Fun (Medium) White Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software (Personal Computers)
First off, I think the tablet is great, it fits nicely on my desktop, doesn't take up very much space, mouse response is great (I mostly use the mouse). I don't use the pen that much, but when I do, it works perfectly (although I still need to work on getting the pressure sensitivity right in Photoshop).
The only downsides so far are that I haven't figured out how to replace the pen nibs, as there are no instructions included that tell you how to replace them once they wear down. Also, the tablet software is a bit finicky sometimes, if I unplug the tablet and plug it back in, it occasionally doesn't recognize my button settings, but I think that might be my computer, not the software. Even though it does that, I still give it 5 stars.

Overall, the tablet is great, I would recommend this to a casual artist or someone looking for a good quality tablet.
