This review is from: The Bamboo Rod and How to Build It (Paperback)
As an avid maker of bamboo fly rods I'm always on the lookout for books on the subject. "The Bamboo Rod and How to Make it" was published in 1951 with a reprint in 1992. It's a nice read for how bamboo rods were made "back in the day" but it's way out of date for today's rod maker. The tapers given in the book are all based on 6 inch intervals when most tapers (and planning forms) are based on 5 inch intervals. The rod tapers and rod charts will be of no use to a modern bamboo rod maker. Most if not all of the techniques in the book are no longer used. My opinion... If you want a history book on how it was made 60+ years ago then this book is fine. If your looking for a book to make bamboo rods today buy Wayne Cattanach's book "Handcrafting Bamboo Fly Rods.
