This review is from: Ban This: Live From Cavestomp (Audio CD)
Before Little Steven's Underground Garage succeeded in the (hopefully) permanent canonization of garage rock, there were the glorious years of Cavestomp. These concerts brought together the best of traditional and neo-garage bands for the personal consumption of the devout.

In 1999, three of four members of The Standells came togther and - with the addition of an incredibly competetent bassist - made music that sounded as good as it did when first performed. This CD captures the event. If you have any memories of the band and fear that this record might bum you out, cast the concerns aside..it's really primo!

5.0 out of 5 stars Standells - 'Ban This! Live From Cavestomp!' (Varese), April 15, 2005
This review is from: Ban This: Live From Cavestomp (Audio CD)
Until I just happen to see this release in a store,I never would've believed this band would EVER reunite. This may've have been a one-off reunion,I'm not sure.Either way,'Ban This!' was recorded at Westbeth Theatre in NYC on November 7,1999.The sound quality is top notch and the setlist couldn't be better.Line-up includes three out of four original members,Dick Dodd-drums&lead vocals,Larry Tamblyn-organ&vocals,Tony Valentino-guitar&and vocals with stand-in Peter Stuart-bass&vocals.Thirteen cuts with the best being "Why Pick On Me?","Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White",the upbeat "Barracuda","Mr.Nobody","Try It" and their only ever hit the unforgetable "Dirty Water".Very nice CD.During the set Dodd tells the crowd of how The Standell's career was forced to end rather quickly due to all the controversy surrounding the song "Dirty Water".To all them no lifers that tried to ruin fan's good times back then,GET A LIFE,NIMROD!Timeless garage rock.Truly fun to listen to.Highly recomended.
